Alex Smith is better than the press would have you believe. The problem is he was the #1 overall so everyone expects him to be John Elway. Had he been a sixth round draft pick people would be happy with his performance. Well, he's not John Elway and he's not Ryan Leaf. He's good enough to start in the NFL. If you haven't noticed, there are a LOT of crappy QBs in the NFL. Smith's rating last year was better than McNabb, Bradford, Sanchez, Henne, Hasselbeck and almost identical to Plamer and Collins. And, that's with crappy QB coaching and O coordinator. He'll be better this year for sure. This year he has been efficient if not prolific. However, I'm not sure you post a 104.1 rating over five games without being at least adequate as a starter.
And, I agree that QB rating doesn't equate to fantasy. He doesn't have enough attempts/game or yards. Still, if someone is sitting there with an injured QB or someone who's struggling, he can't be too bad.

In this offense, unless they are playing from behind, Smith is never going to pile up a ton of yards. They throw the ball deep opportunistically but not a lot by design, and that plays to Smith's strengths.
But I think he will give you a decent amount of touchdowns and not a lot of picks. I'd guesstimate 250-275 ypg, 20-25 completions per game, and 27-32 TDs when all is said & done.
Harbaugh has shown that even when behind, he'll continue to run the ball a decent % of the time, and he has 2 solid backs to do it with in Gore & Hunter.
Yesterday looked too easy, I do worry about Smith & the O-line when they are up against a really good pass rush like DETs, but overall you have to love what you see in the 1st 5 games if you're a Niners fan like 3 of us are... :D

But seriously, I think he completes a lot of passes, just more of the shorter variety. Maybe 200-225 is more realistic on the yardage. The quality of opponents in NFC West not that high though, watch out...
Right now he's on track for 17 completions per game, a shade under 200 ypg, and 23 TDs. I do think his all of those are going to track upwards from here as Harbaugh gains more confidence in him. In the 1st 2-3 games of the year it was VERY clear that Harbaugh was keeping the reins very tight. 2nd half against the Eagles, when they were desperate, and yesterday were the 1st signs of what they can do when they pass a bit more.

I'm afraid to say too much as I don't want to bobble the ship, but I like the 7 series won in a row. Winning series is key, with hopefully a couple of sweeps sprinkled about.
I was hoping to be scoring more runs than I am, but my pitching is looking good as my low-end (bargain guys IMO) starters are performing very well.
So I expect to start hitting better as time goes on while probably allowing a few more runs, but hopefully wins will continue at the same pace.

Youch. We may have to make some sort of move. This team is just SUCKING.
Blow a 1-0 lead in the 9th of game 1. Then lose a 4-3 game in part because of a 1-5 HR. Then the bullpen turns a 1-0 game into 9-0 loss in game 3.
pretty darn depressing. Score only 4 runs tonight. I don't *thik* we're the worst offensive team int he league, but maybe I"m wrong. :(

Game of the season so far - check out gm 30.
I take 1st 2 of 3 from AT, then get down 8-1 in 6th inning of gm 3. We chip away, down 8-6 in bottom of 9th. 2 quick outs, then Viciedo singles and Ishikawa doubles. Matt Tolbert then doubles in 2 runs to tie it up.
In the 10th, we get 2 on with 1 out and Hamilton up, and he promptly grounds into a double play as the home fans groan loudly. He's been killing rallies all year!
In the top of the 11th, McDonald singles in between a couple of outs, and Damon doubles into the center field gap. Torres unleashes a perfect throw to nail McDonald at the plate. The crowd goes bananas.
Bottom of the 11th, same verse as the bottom of the 9th - with 1 out, Viciedo singles and Ishikawa doubles, bringing up our hero Tolbert. He hits a walkoff single to cap the 7-run comeback and send us to our 1st sweep of the season. :D
