OK. I will have the August theme coming by the end of the week. The theme is so vile that I'm having to check with the Federal Government first to see if it's legal!! 8)

If it's that vile we may have to have our taxman schedule him an audit. :D

I already know my theme for the next month but will leave you all in suspense for awhile.

AUGUST THEME!!!! TIM REDDING DONKEY LEAGUE

Postby KEVINEHLE » Tue Jul 11, 2006 3:43 pm

OK--Sorry to startle you guys with my pre-league warnings! It isn't that bad! We will generate many many more runs than Jeep's Brazelton league!!! 8) You guys will score more in this league than you would at a Las Vegas brothel! Here are the rules:

[b:1321c1858b]*Everyone of course is in Coors Field :duh:
*Autodraft (Advanced League of course)
*$200M League
*NO PITCHERS can have a salary above $1M (yes, there are enough starting and relief pitchers to go around)
*Allowed only 1 player to have a defense rating of "1" as a starter. (Another "1" rated defense player is OK to start as a DH)
*EACH Team must have 2 2Bs and 2 SSs on their roster with a 4 or 5 defensive rating. NO 1,2, or 3 Rated 2B and Shortstops can start a Game unless HAL subs for injury!!
*NO starting catchers can have a "NEGATIVE" rated arm[/b:1321c1858b]

*****TIM REDDING RULE*****
We will have a Pick 3 State Lottery Drawing. Everyone will need to pick a state. The owner with the LOWEST lottery number will have to draft TIM REDDING and keep him on your roster the entire season! However, the flip side of this is that the owner who is stuck with Redding will get the #1 pick of the draft. The owner will declare who he wants and the other 11 owners cannot put him on their draft card!

Oh, for those of you who are not familiar with Redding in the 2006 season, his numbers are very respectable....for Softball!!!
S5/R3 0-6 10.56ERA 1.99WHIP
You don't have to start him...but he will always be lurking in your bullpen....just in case you are in a tight game and you need his services!!!

I would like to have this league start on Monday, July 31st.

I'll create a Pick 3 list a little later.

HMM not going to score many runs using 2006 COORS, remember the homerun ballpark split is only a whimpy 15. Also can't start on July 31st because it is still JULY so have to wait until August 7th to start the August theme in August.

As for state I'll go with my home state of IL.

Are you sure you want to do an autodraft for a 200M league? A bad autodraft basically wrecks your season as there is NOTHING left on the waiverwire. 200M really only works as a live draft in my oponion. Plus with allthe 2b/ss/catcher rules it could get really bad with what you get left with.

Martin and Andrew, interestingly I was thinking about each of your points last night. We should wait until August 7th. 2006 Coors will be good enough!! :D 1-19 singles will put guys on base and the 1-15 HRs at least gives the poor pitcher a shot at getting an over-the-wall grab by his outfielder from time to time.
Also, I had thought about sticking with an $80M salary cap, but initially I thought there was a chance that teams could dip below the $60M mark which is prohibited in the $80M cap. If you have a $10M or less pitching staff, that means that all of the Hitters on each team would have to be around $50Mil and higher. After further research, I see that teams won't have that issue. There are plenty of hitters available to get to $50 per team.
So here are a couple changes:

*August 7th start
*$80Million

I like live drafts. However, this group seems pretty busy. What are all of your preferences? Now that we have until August 7, we appear to have some time.
I don't think the Penngray site is necessary. Since everyone will basically be taking hitters, we could do a 8 or 10 round draft on this board so that everyone will essentially see their starting lineups.

Looking at possible position players I have come up with a salary of 78.4 with only 13 of the 14 hitters filled. And yes, 1 of the hitters is a .50 player. No, I haven't even looked at pitchers yet. Since this type of league will not be eligeble for the record books I suggest making cap $100 mil. The live draft will be needed only if cap stays at $200 mil. I SUPPOSE ALL OF OUR TEAM NAMES HAVE TO HAVE POTATO REFERENCES :)

If we do a live draft and you have to pick the pitcher then get the free player doesn't that give you 2 free picks? If that is the case I want to win this lottery. 8)

[b:de0e1c19cd]If you get stuck with Redding, you just put him on your Auto-Draft list but you do get the #1 overall pick which is now sounding very much like a live draft over a span of a few days. I love the Penn site so I'm thinking about doing a 12 round draft over there. Any objections?
Also, Andrew has convinced me with his homework that we can make this a $100M league.

I'll recap the rules again on a clean slate tomorrow.
