please someone confirm my math....ironwill1 with the bid of 8.5 would have purchased 9 players and spent 72.1 million.

That would not leave him with enough money to bid the minimum $0.5 million on each of the 16 players he needs to fill his squad.

therefore his bid is illegal.

I think rules clearly state bid to be ignored...so with DHowser as winner, Ironwill should advise who he is putting up ...either sandberg or klein and dhowser needs to nominate

I think he should have, as he participated in our last auction. I suspect he inadvertently put 2 bids out (Honus and Collins) not expecting to win both.

note- I edited my comments above after rereading the rules in the initial post, as I believe they were very clear.

thus after winning Honus (and losing out on Collins), ironwill1 has 8 players and $16.4 million to spend on 17 more.

Correct. Ironwill has overbid and Collins belongs to DHowser at 6.79.

Also agree, no one send bids on Sandberg or Klein. Ironwill will have to choose one to nominate.

I'm sure ironwill is aware of the $80 mill limit as this is not his first auction.

I thought I had bid 7.5 on Collins, which would have kept me at the correct number. I bid on Wagner and Collins at the same sitting. I checked and did hit the 8 instead of the 7 as I was running out of the house. (The iPhone keypad is small.) I will have to wait until I am home to bid in the future, I wanted Collins....
