Also I think I dropped Herndon and Wood and promoted Delgado and Sanchez. Perhaps, I lost that somewhere. But that was my intent at the outset.[/quote:4be4c3d164]

:o Not to be a stick in the mud (or make this into something bigger than it is), but I think the player pool for this free agent draft should be set before the draft begins. to make roster moves that add players to the free agent draft in the middle of the 5th round of the free agent draft means that not everyone gets a fair shot at selecting those newly available players.

Did I want Wood or Herndon? Not necessarily... and if no one else complains and we all let it slide, it's fine with me, but I don't like the precedent that's being set.

I am not sure what the rules are about promoting prospects between seasons or between free agent/supplemental drafts, but once all rosters have been pared to 20, I don't think any promoting/dropping should take place during the free agent draft... i.e., no transactions should take place that affect the pool of players available in the draft. Turtle, assuming your roster was at 20 or fewer players with Wood and Herndon before we started drafting, can you hang onto Wood and Herndon for now and drop them to promote your prospects after the draft? The net result would pretty simply be that Wood and Herndon are not available to be drafted by anyone (until the Supplemental draft between seasons).

Calbatross, I think you are gettng this all out of proportion. If I remember correctly, the rukes say you can drop a player "at any time." Certainly David Herndon and Kerry Wood are not going to drastically affect the balance of power in the league. If somethiing like that did happen, I think the issue could be addressed at that time.

As long as we can agree that players dropped during a draft are not eligible to be drafted in that draft, then I don't have a problem.

Here's what's in the rules:
[u:9d78f42968]Prospects:[/u:9d78f42968]
5) Prospects can be promoted to the major league roster at any time, provided there is roster space available. Once promoted all prospects lose their prospect status, and cannot be demoted back to prospect status.

[u:9d78f42968]Player Movement[/u:9d78f42968]
5) Regular players can be released from the 30 man roster only for the following: a) pre-draft release prior to Annual Free Agent draft; b) pre-draft release prior to Supplemental free agent draft; c) to bring a roster down to the 30 man limit as a result of an unbalanced transaction.

I know this transaction probably won't affect the balance of power in our league. It's about precedent. I don't want to be a part of a league where rules don't matter... not because of this situation necessarily, but because in the future a similar situation could reasonable get... ugly.

But what I am saying is that I don't agree with that. Oh, if I were to lose my mind and drop Felix Hernandez, I could see your point. But something like that would surely be reviewed by the league.

But it's clearly to Turtle's advantage to force him to keep Wood and Herndon through the draft. Both those guys will surely get drafted in the late rounds. So I am in favor of allowing him to drop them.

And there is an argument that his promoting his prospects now puts him over the roster limit, since he must exercise ten picks to go with his 20 keepers.

Leagues like this do not have bulletproof sets of rules. It's not like this is life or death, or even food for you children.

Chill.

LOL "Chill" is something you say to someone who is worked up. I am not worked up :D

rburgh, I am not going to debate with you any more. Your opinion on the importance of rules is clear. Thanks for your opinion, though, rburgh.

I am interested to see if anyone else (particularly Turtle or Blackjack, as commish and co-commish) has an opinion... and sooner rather than later because it is possible Wood or Herndon would be drafted if returned to the player pool.

I have done the research, found the rules (see above), and think it's pretty cut and dried.

Trust me, I am not worked up! :D :D :D

I just think a resolution is important before the draft gets too much farther along. Thanks!
