Iron Range League

Limited pool drafts with knowledgeable owners ... you can never expect to get most of the guys you'd ideally like ...

Just curious, as someone who is about to play this game for the first time (though I played tabletop SOM for years in the 60's & 70's): is there anyone else who thinks it's stupid how many guys can start every 4th game? As far as I'm concerned, anyone should be able to, but they all should be an S(1) for a start on 3 days rest. No one in the major leagues has started regularly on 3 days rest for at least 10 years, maybe 20. It's stupid.

cwolf, the 3days rest is TOTALLY unrealistic and abberitional, but it somehow works with the game engine to get those stud starters into the 30's in starts, and the proper amount of innings to approximate real production. it's a similar weakness to allowing a 30 inning reliever to throw more innings than smoltz or rivera. imagine though if we didn't have a few * pitchers thrown in, what the five man rotations would look like in a league like this?! kinda like mine's gonna look...

Having every fourth day starters is clearly left over from the old days of the game. It does add an element of strategy - do you pick up four every fourth day starters, even if some of them aren't so good?

But it's an element of strategy that involves manipulating the game simulation that's divorced from "real baseball". So, for example, I'm resisting using guys in this league who did well in very limited AB or IP, even though they're priced accordingly, because I don't like the idea of my "ace" starter being, say, Madritsch or D Bush (no criticism intended of the owners who picked these guys). It just isn't realistic, and I want to pick my team based on some version of "reality" that I can relate to. I'm just not into computer game "cheats" (not "cheating", but the term used for little tricks and loopholes that help players beat game programming).

[/quote:aa57c84563]Disagree. What the asterisk does is propel those who have it into way more IP than they should have. It's just too powerful a differentiator. The difference between 32 starts and 41 starts is huge.

I've set a proxy with an alternate for each of my next two picks. Hope I've done this right:

Player A - Rd 0 - Group 1 - Priority 1 - No
Player B - Rd 0 - Group 1 - Priority 2 - Yes
Player C - Rd 0 - Group 2 - Priority 1 - No
Player D - Rd 0 - Group 2 - Priority 2 - Yes

Trying to say: take A with next pick, if A's gone take B; take C with following pick, if C's gone take D.

I waited to see if Mark was going to make his second pick then leave for work, that did not happen, so I am leaving, it will take me a hour to get there :( . Once there, I will check-in to see if Mark made his pick. I would leave a proxy for that pick but I have to many directions that I may have to take if Mark takes the guy I want  . Plus, I have to try and figure out who Meat wants then snatch him up  . SGT D
