A brief history here. When we started this league, the 2005 TSN game(2004 SOM cards) was not even out yet. We drafted from penngray's site, and he had almost all of the cards (meaning almost any player who appeared in 2004, even for 1-2 IP or 2-3 AB's) loaded into his draft menu. We couldn't really guess who would be TSN eligible and who wouldn't, and penngray's site wasn't 100% accurate (see the missing Dave Bush), so we decided to allow the drafting of any player who had any kind of 2004 SOM card.

With this draft, it was stated that any player who played in 2004 was eligible, in order to simplify things. I don't even have access to the old draft on penngray's site, and I'm probably not alone. I've just been checking players on ESPN's website. I saw that Blanton played, and double-checked to see if he appeared on the 2004 TSN rating's disk. He did.

I would suggest from this point on (meaning the upcoming FA draft) using the TSN list only. That leaves no questions. The only downside is that there's no potential to draft before the TSN game comes out, but I don't think that's a huge issue, especially since TSN is getting the game out much faster than they used to.

That's all well and good Mike, but it still gives certain people an advantage over others who assumed, as I did, that the only people available in this draft was those players Penn originally loaded into his website at the start of this game. That's why I couldn't find anything wrong with Sandy's pick of Gomes, who was on the site. Blanton, on the other hand, was never available when we originally drafted, and should not be available now. It's not like this may not have ramifications down the road, since he is a potential Cy Young pitcher in the coming years, not some scrub.

I give up.

You guys figure out what to do with Blanton and then get back to me please.

I am too frustrated right now.

Report abuse Ryan Howard et al 08 Mar 2006 14:42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the deal with Ryan, when we started this last year it was before the cards came out and our only reference for players was Strat's disk which penn imported onto his site. Now Howard DID have a card for Strat last year and therefore was included on penn's site, BUT because he had only 39 ab's, he did not show up in TSN's game.

It was decided that if the player did have a card at all ( that is if he was in the 2004 ratings book or on the disk) that he could be drafted even if he did not show up in TSN's version of the game.

Howard, therefore is a legal pick and okay to be on someones roster.

I myself took Johny Peralta under much the same circumstances.

Questions?

No.

I believe you said it.

If they had a SOM card (not necessarily a TSN card) they were/are eligible to be drafted.

If they didn't, they weren't/aren't.

Then at the outset of the Supplemental Draft I posted the following:

3 Round Supplemental Draft [b:78168783e3](NON SERPENTINE)[/b:78168783e3]

[b:78168783e3][i:78168783e3]Player taken MUST have had a 2004 season SOM card [/i:78168783e3](but not necessarily a 2005 TSN game card ...)[/b:78168783e3]

AND ... [b:78168783e3][i:78168783e3]he must NOT appear on the list of players already taken[/i:78168783e3] posted above and on other pages in this thread ....[/b:78168783e3]

I don't know what else to say.

However, as much as I think Blanton is a "decent" pitching prospect, I don't see any CY Youngs in his future however (not that it should matter one way or another).

All I can say is that it was stated repeatedly what the rule was. This exact question was asked earlier, with Turnbow, I think. That might be different because Turnbow was on penn's site, but it was stated at that time that we weren't using penngray's site.

And this is round 3 of the draft. If there was a question about the eligibility of a certain player, or questions about general eligibility rules, you were free to ask at any time (like, say, when you were about to select), and would have received an answer.
