Hey charlie, Thanks for pointing me in the direction of O.S.Card, going through "Sarah" and "Ender's game".

I'll second the belateds! I hope ya'll got plenty of presents and no hangovers from the spiked eggnog.

Back to Rob's question about HAL leaving in Rincon so long...I haven't a clue? HAL did that to me lastnight as well even though I have Rincon on a quick hook and had a totally rested J. Nathan sitting in the bully twiddling his thumbs! It is very frustrating trying to get HAL set to manage the bully anywhere near how I would manage it. That's still a point of frustration with me in this game. It would be a huge help to know the rules that HAL operates under with regard to pitching decisions.

HAL's Mgmt of the Pen

Is my biggest problem with the game. I ususllay carry 5-6 RP's, but always find that my Rh or LH specialists that cost less than 1M were always getting all the innings and leaving my 4-6M RP's out. In this league, I tried something different - having 2 closers 1. Tavarez who is good enuf to come in in the 8th inning and face LHH if need be, but still set to "Avoid LHH", but not "Quick Hook." and 2. Eyre, who is set for "9th inning" on the weaker side(LH) and to avoid RHH. Then I have used the 2 big middle men to pick up all the rest of the innings. It seems to have worked out ok.

Now if I could only get at least 6 innings out of my SP's, it would be great. But that has not been the case.

I'm runnin' out of rope.

Last night my Dallas D-Macs lost in the semis and ET got to within one game of my hoodies after being swept by stoney...

Oh, well, what can you do, eh? live and learn they say.

Down to four teams now...if my divisionn keeps playing me tough soon I'll be down to three.

It's all cool though, ya know why?

Because at least my "sexy beast" Sexson will beat that dynamic duo of Cota/Piazza...sure right now it doesn't like it but my sexy beast will not fail me...oh no he won't.

BTW Charlie, have you seen the HR total of Sexson in my "Blue" bills?

I'm feeling serious and instructional here for a minute...

Having gone back and really done the homework on my team I'm realizing that I really didn't get the most bang for my buck. I am really just starting to realize the pure value of homework when it comes to building a team.
It's not enough to just think a card looks good, you have to do your homework people. You have to break down the numbers and see just how much of a value you're really getting. Having done so after the fact, I'm realizing now that I could have done much, much better with the choices I made. Having said all that, I'm still hopeful that my boys can pull off a coup but I wouldn't be suprised if they finished just outside of the wildcard. I'm realizing now that with Strat, much like the stock market, that unless you're willing to do the homework before you pull the trigger on a transaction (post waivers or after the season has started) then you should expect to get less than you bargained for.

As an experiment into HAL's thinking, I decided that tonight I would turn off all the settings I had on my bully and erase my settings in regards to set-up men and closers. This should be interesting and hopefully informative to us all as to how HAL thinks and operates with no guidance whatsoever.

Interesting, I take all the constraints off of HAL and he does about the best job of managing the bully that I have seen all season!
I think I'm gonna keep the constraints off and just see if I can't determine HAL's modis operandi.

Then, if it appears I have bullpen problems or I am way behind in the standings, I'll make changes. Otherwise, all I do is set quick or slow hook on my starters and a few relievers and avoid LH or RH for the unbalanced guys and let HAL do his worst (or best)

I'm gonna try that from here on out too ET. To be honest it never occured to me before not to set the controls. I know setting the L/U's is important because HAL does screw that up badly and I guess that I just figured that HAL would screw up the bully as well. I know I'll be watching the games a bit more closely now to see if I can discern some kind of logic in how HAL thinks pitching wise.
