The Rediculously Early Pre-Card draft - Draft Thread

Postby mbertolli » Sun Mar 11, 2012 7:28 am

Really? Wow I've been playing for 10 years and I didnt realize that!

I always thought that the auto draft just gave you the next highest priced player. Your saying it gives the next highest priced player that does not appear on anyone elses draft card?

Mike.

I think what Mbertolli is saying is this:

IF -
Manager A has Kemp as his first pick
Manager B has Kemp as his first
Manager C has Kemp as his first
Manager D has Ellsbury as his first

Whoever loses out Kemp between A,B,C will get Ellsbury then Victorino NOT someone who does not appear on any 12 manager's list. Manager D does not automatically get Ellsbury because everyone else has Kemp #1.

From the SOM rules:

. If a player was selected by only one team, that team gets him.

. If a player was selected by more than one team:
... The team that ranked that player highest gets him.

. If more than one team tied for ranking that player the highest:
... That player is randomly awarded to one of those teams that ranked him the same.

. For each team that lost out on a player:
... The team receives the next highest-priced player that is the same primary position of the original player,[b:5db5d39b69] that was not selected by any team. [/b:5db5d39b69]

I can see how the autodraft logic could work okay for ATG with its massive player pool.

For current card sets, though, this is how we end up with some really crappy substitutions -- and is why I mainly play in keepers instead of regular leagues.

Then why has it happened in drafts like this where players that are owned by a manger are drafted by teams that never had them on their list? It has happened multiple times before

If you're talking about keeper leagues, Dan, (or any other non-game-engine drafts) the game engine has no way of knowing who is on your roster.
