Invitational league: Weinberg vs Petrosian

Postby cristano1 » Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:43 pm

first of all, guys: it doesnt matter to me whether you think petro is better than me, worse than me, or the same as me. i am fine with all of you thinking that petro > weinberg. its totally cool by me... all i can go by is my body of work, and for atg barnstormers is the only thing that matters...

second of all, petro is not my "arch nemesis"... he was simply someone i thought used to be good and really has tailed off recently, so i put a post up what happened to petro...

finally, in terms of ATG, there is only one venue that matters... the barnstormers tour... im sure petro and his super reliever team will make the finals and we will meet there... there is no way id walk away from the finals...

however, lesson learned... the bulk of you dont think super relievers are cheating... thats fine... i do... and id be fine doing a super reliever in this league, except for the fact that i know id be cheating the 10 of you who didnt... so i asked the other 8 guys in the barnstormers finals if they were cool with super relievers in the finals, or if they found it cheating... if the consensus is "cool with it", then so be it, and ill build my team accordingly... if they think its cheating, then i will play a mans game... i know that petro isnt breaking any written rule by super relieving... but in a mans game theres more than written rules... and, to me, gaming the system is cheating... i dont think a few more posts with you guys is going to change that. if you guys dont want to or are afraid to stand up to petro, then thats your agenda... and hey, if petro makes the finals, i know hes going super reliever... so if im dumb enough to again think he would play like a man, i only have myself to blame...

Weinberg, PLAY!!!

Once again, I know you're really good and want to play against you.

Play your man's game and show up. Be the bigger man.

Besides you've already seen a round of drafting from your competition in barnstormers....... I'll feel cheated if I disclosed this strategy without getting to play (beat) against you. 8-)

Doesn't matter. He plans to take Bonds with the first pick. He's already posted on that in the Barnstormer's Tour thread. Unless he changed his mind to take Murray.

i agree with my bro's argument completely...the super rp to me is cheating. i have been playing this game for like 7 years, with a lot of those first 5 years being in 200X games, not atg. so...i guess my view may be swayed from that, but all i ever heard was anything over 200 ip's for an RP is cheating. in fact, in the 200X tournaments, they outlaw it. you get a 25 point deduction or something if you break 200 ip's. why would they do that if it was fair and the rp's were priced properly and it wasn't "abusing" or "gaming" the system. it reminds me of when players are using steroids. petro may be a great player, but now he will be known in my mind as the mark mcgwire of strato - so much potential and all thrown away cuz he couldn't be my bro straight up and he had to cheat. whatever though, i could care less. you guys have wasted way to many of my hours following this online. i'm glad this discussion has come to an end.

all the above being said, i'm not quitting this league. if you want me to bow out, i will. but, i'd like to play.

to be honest, i was hoping the lieutenant would stay around so we could both draft .5'ers the rest of the draft and then teach petro what playing off waivers really means. and yes, we have done that 2 or 3 times in the last 4 or 5 teams we made, and we have made playoffs all of those times (i think - don't quote me on this). do i do this because i think i am better than others? no. i just think it is fun with such a large player pool to try something new. it's like a theme league to me.

anyways, i don't mind losing to mcgwire in this league. i actually find it more enjoyable to try and outslug his juiced 8ss without using roids.

two options in the finals:

if you make it, i will take murray 1 out of spite...
if u dont make it, then whatever the consensus is with the other 11 managers i will live by...

Not cheating IMO

I dont think the Super-Reliever strategy is cheating at all. In the context of this [b:e2012f420f]fantasy game [/b:e2012f420f] for bomber teams, it has long been a standard practice for many managers to have a rotation of lower priced starters, and have 2-3 relievers who have better cards to take up the bulk of innings. A bomber team will face other teams with high-end starters so it cancels out the advantage somewhat- it is just another strategy that can be employed - it is not gaming the system any more than having Milt May banging out 35-40 HRs (and his impact can be lessened by basically stealing at will off him) or Gates Brown (who can be neutralized if you have some lefties in your bullpen - HAL will not always remove him for a pinch hitter). For every advantage that a team employs, it is up to us as competitors to lessen and take advantage. Seems to me in a a draft, you also have the advanatage of picking your stadium in the later rounds which can be used to at least minimize your division opponents draft card.

As for Petro drafting a reliever in the first round, so what? That means that someone has a chance to pick up a stud player in the first round.

This is a game after all and we all play because we enjoy it - it has some anamolies built in, like absurd HR rates, astronomical IP (for both starters and relievers), etc...its not perfect nor is it meant to be

as i said. i am fine with the super reliever strategy. as long as everyone in the league knows about it and is cool with it. i didnt, and i wasnt...

had i known about it, i still would have picked petey #1. obviously if petro makes the barnstormers finals, then i know its coming...

i will never agree that a super reliever is the same as gates brown or milt may. milts bad arm is reflected in his price. gates lefty specialist dominance is reflected in his price. however, at 300 innings a clip, only half of a super relievers innings are reflected in his price...

[quote:66680075f7="13Baseballs"][quote:66680075f7="weinberg"]how about a 2-3 line blurb on each of the 4? simply stating my incorrect assumptions on each topic.

1) pricing
2) cheating
3) win percentage
4) what a man would do[/quote:66680075f7]

Let me just start off and say, I've been around since ATG, so I guess I'm considered as an Old Timer. My winning percentage may not be the best, but every now and then, I draft a team that does fairly well. To me, this is a fun game... A GAME! I have spent many hours with Modmark playing the dice game in the early 70's... it was also a fun game back then.
As I stated in an earlier post, I do not read/post the Message Boards very often... but this post, I cannot stay away from! My work is suffering.
Weinberg, get a life... this is a game... as stated earlier "we could care less about your winning pct, pricing formula, BS success". If you are such a great Manager, why do you not share your winning secrets, your pricing formula, etc... why do you not help others and be their mentor... instead of bashing and pounding.
To my knowledge, we have never played in the same League. Your comments in this Post, makes me not want to in the future. You seem like the type that would win the whole thing and then brag about it. Downgrade the other Managers. This is a game... remember that! Lighten up.
And no, I am not somebody's girlfriend... I am my wife's husband... and proud of it! Try watching who you call "girlfriend"! You are offending too many people... Chris[/quote:66680075f7]
