I actually tend to agree with QK on this. It is a definite advantage to see how a player performs. This draft started exactly two weeks ago. You can't tell me that the draft wouldn't be different if it was completed in 3 days (if a time-slotted drafting system were used for example) as compared to having extra time to evaluate potential draftees.

I am not saying (or accusing) anyone of stalling by any means, I am just agreeing with the point that having extra time to evaluate is a definite and (in my mind) unquestionable advantage.

It's not personal Sandy. I have had running discussions with a number of guys in this & other leagues, and we all are sensing a need to implement better clock management to avoid this kind of issue. I just wanted to bring it to the fore.

It's not that I believe you or anyone is stalling or intending to create an advantage, or that you don't have legit reasons for delaying. It just creates that situation, where there is a distinct advantage to picking last or delaying picks period, wherever they fall, when there should not be.

So yes per what Smitty said in HCKL I will also look at our completion times for drafts, start to finish & decide if we need to make it a time-slot per pick format. In a 3 round draft where everyone knows the dates, there's just no reason to not finish in a week, even with 1 or 2 extreme delays (not picking on you Sykes). So if we can't do it in this format, switching to that one may be a good way to go.

And sorry, but if you can find any draft where I delayed a pick by more than a (working) day, please do so. I don't think that's been the case. I'm not perfect but I'm pretty punctual when it comes to drafting...

Well, the length of the draft isn't going to be pinned all on me so the timing of these complaints is suspect. Put yourself in my shoes.

Wait until it's over to voice your opinions -- not at this particular time.

That's my point. I didn't say I disagreed. just that I didn't appreciate the timing. There IS a difference.

It's more that, given the already excessive length of the draft, my expectations are that the remaining pickers should be prepared to move forward. So I guess it is personal in this sense - if all day Friday plus the weekend was not enough time to work out your trade, give it up & make your picks already!

I sent an offer to Smokey and he only JUST replied to me a couple of hours ago (as he will attest) and we have been texting back and forth.

Arguing back and forth here only wastes time ...

This draft was done on a no-clock basis because of the time constraints everyone laid on my when trying to put the dates together. When half the league is on vacation, another third is tied up with work, others are in foreign countries and the rest are God knows where - a clock didn't seem to a feasible option - except to count how many times eveyone gets skipped because they have more important things to do.

That said - there remains no time limit.

We've gone this far without it and I'm not going to slap it on Sandy now or later. End of discussion.

And on a personal note, I must admit I am very disappointed in how this draft has run. I had thought that we'd get done far earlier than this, since the date was essentially "voted on" by everyone and I assumed everyone was ready to go. I've spent hours emailing people letting them know they were up. I've let work, both at home and here at the office, lag because I'm stuck hand holding here and in USKL2. And while doing 3 other drafts.

So if I seem to be lacking sympathy for anyone's complaint - sue me.

KD - just to be clear my comments were in now way trying to criticize the way you ran this draft, or requesting that a clock be put on. That wasn't my where I was coming from. My point was that this league is made up of savvy, responsible owners & we should all try to respect the other owners, make picks in a timely fashion when we can. No worries from my end.
