NLD 30 - Smell the glove!

Hey guys, I'll post some general observations tomorrow.

I find the sims very useful. Of course I'm not foolish enough to consider them a guarantee of performance.

[quote:bda6c061ad="joethejet"]Don't have the computer game any longer. Sims didn't seem to help us much when we did it.

So, do tell, what are the "huge holes"? I think I know what our strengths and weaknesses are, but it's interesting to see if the Sims show the same.

From the sims only

Overall: #1 or 2 team 70% of the time

Hitting is your core. You have solid OPS with 4 or 5 hiiters - then you hope your other bats get good rolls. The multiple SH forced me to go with Anibal Sanchez over Dickey. While Pujols and your other RH are long ball threats, your park gives the reverse pitchers a chance. Oddly, LHPs faired well against you but that seems counter to the card values.

You had the most lopside games in the league (games scoring 5 runs are more).

Your starting pitching is solid but your #3 and#4 SP will forces HAL to use your bullpen more than others in the division. I like Dickey and flipped a coin on him and Anibal. Dickey is a solid throw against my team but not the others in the Division which hits RHPs. I see he did well in early TSN leagues and then gets back to his $2.5m value

Frankly, Dickey pitches well - you're looking post season

Thanks Semper. Interesting.

Yeah, Dickey is a wild card for us.

You're absolutely right we built our team around our first four picks. Montero should be decent and Betemit and Smith OK. Our OB isn't sterling that's my biggest concern.

Obviously you're not going to get a lot of offense from Desmond, maybe some steals. Espinosa will hit LHP. But it's four real good, three pretty good and two suck v RHP.

V LH, we're going to have to have some good timing. Overall we're fine with a lot of power. The other guys just need to time their decent OBs with the HR rolls and we'll need to hit our BPHR rolls at the right times.

Dickey does match up well with you and a couple other teams, but yeah, he's going to tax the pen. Hopefully Timmy will pitch well behind him to save the pen. I'm surprised Carpenter wasn't beter. He's almost a $5 mil pitcher.

Another wild card, of course, is what DT is going to end up with.

Joey Votto is another disappointment in the sims

In TSN leagues, he underwhelms so far

I see lesser players getting the nod over Joe

Same deal with Roy

Votto is backwards a bit so needs to face enough LHP and probably be in the right park.

Your #1 + #2 stuck out and Dickey as I debated keeping him

Carpenter's name didn't appear often on the leader rankings which typically required 16+ wins

Of course, Chris didn't appear on losing many games either

If I recall, Chris is balanced slight L with no BPHRs?

I don't have the game with me this week but RHPs with E or 1L/R ratings struggled a bit more than others.

My team faced nearly 4 RHPs to 1 LHP with the averaging above 3 to 1

It will be fun watching my R tilted RHBs fare versus LHPs.

Another card that simmed well and doesn't show up often Longoria

His 1 rating makes him pricey for the injury chances

Aramis Ramirez does a decent job with solid TBxOB against both LHP and RHPs

However, the X rolls make him a bit pricey too

I liked A Rod but I couldn't find a decent backup that allowed me to spend my money elsewhere

The game engine loves using Skip Schumaker and HAL uses Skip as my 3rd catcher.

Funny about Schumaker.

Carpenter is only slightly backwards. I wouldn't expect him to be great, just not get shlled every game. 1 bphr v RHB.

I have your team pretty even against both sides of the plate. Almost exactly the same O ratings each way. Same for Big A. Who knows with DT.

Carptenter didn't strike me as getting shelled per se

I only noticed Tim, Gio, and RA results with Chris' unremarkable to me

Every third sim, Dickey is 20-7 and the others he goes 11-19 or 14-14.

I will look at Chris next time I am home.

I know your 5th starter had an incredible number of relief innings in mop up roles thought.
