Belanger - He'll definitely be a 1 rated SS, see all them glittering gloves?

Yeah, and with his complete lack of offense he should be cheap! :D

Belanger has 3 pretty decent years if TSN chooses to use them. They are:

1969 - .287 BA, .351 OBP
1971 - .266 BA, .365 OBP
1976 - .270 BA, .336 OBP

The rest of the years are not good offensively and he never had a 600PA year. There is no doubt that he will be a 1 defensively though. :D He could be a 2M player just due to his defense. If all 3 of the above years are on his card, to go along with two bad years, he could be priced even higher.

Belanger was my next pick. I almost took him instead of Harrah, but figured Harrah would be rated at least a 2 on defence at SS? Am I insane?

I loved watching that left side of the infield of the Orioles. Belanger and Robinson were a wall out there.

Gmac, I'm not sure that Harrah is going to be a 2 at SS.

I looked up the career fielding % as a SS for the SS's taken in this draft plus a few more and Harrah has the worst %.

Bowa - .980
Belanger - .977
Metzger - .976
Aparicio - .972
Concepcion - .971
Burleson - .971
Petrocelli - .969
Veryzer - .966
Kessinger - .966
Campaneris - .964
Yount - .964
Patek - .962
Templeton - .961
Harrah - .960

Oh well. I took a shot. Not very impressed by the other choices at SS. If Harrah has one of those over .370 OBP, I may have to sacrifice the range at SS. Or wait to see what .75 are available in the 70s that are a 2.

Though, LM, range factor is supposed to have nothing to do with fielding percentage -- I know you know that.

I can't recall Toby Harrah playing SS, but I'm guessing that he was moved to 3B for a reason.

Thanks for making me feel better about picking Belanger. My thinking was that I can't be sure what Petrocelli's defense will be like at SS, if he'll even be usable there (as opposed to 3B). So, at least Belanger could be a defensive backup.

Damn, talking about these guys, I can't wait for the 70s game to come out!

My guess is that Petrocelli will be a 2 defensively. And that Burleson will be a 1.

Good point BC. I guess the fielding % has more to do with the e number and not the range. I still will be surprised if Harrah is a 2 at SS. Still I think the guys at the top of that list like Bowa, Belanger and Metzger have a great chance to be 1's defensively. I think Belanger and Metzger are locks.

Gmac, Play Harrah at SS even if he's a 4. I'm still in first in the Blind Auction League using Seitzer at SS vs. righties and 2B vs. lefties. He doesn't even lead the league in errors! Yet.
