don't believe in conspiracies at all.

I know what you mean about injuries, You know that guy is going to get hurt, but can't you avoid teh 15 gamers?

Happened to Doumit for me. I know he's going to get hurt, but...

Dave, I told him the same thing. ;)

Because

1) Cust is really maximized as a #2 hitter, with the low DPs and OBP mostly from walks.

2) Swisher is just not that good vs. RHP in my park. I prefer him down in the order, and

3) If I was going to bat Cust #2 I don't like hitting Johnson leadoff because both of my LH hitters would be hitting back to back.

Ruiz's OBP is marginal but having him lead off allowed me to set the rest of my order the way I like it. I've won a ring with him hitting leadoff. But as I suspected, he didn't perform well enough to justify that.

So I'm leading off Johnson and hitting Cust #3. I might switch that. The thing I don't like about that is ARod hitting secord between them. He's obviously much better utilized at 3rd or cleanup, even though he has low DPs too.

Swisher has a .367 OBP. What about this against righties?

1. Swisher
2. Johnson
3. Rodriguez
4. Cust
5. Ludwick
6. Young
7. Ruiz
8. Gutierrez
9. Greene

Well the last three Greene was out, and I don't have a backup. Say hello to 5e88, not good...

Now everyone is healthy (knock wood) and I am poised to make my comeback, with my revised lineup and Anderson in a platoon...

We'll see.

Meanwhile you guys are kicking butt, as predicted...

The ratings never lie.

PS, I seem to remember that ATG division we played in with Petrosian, I had another underperforming team, due to the ratings. I seem to remember closing the gap late, but too little too late... Maybe this team will parallel that one, you are bad luck for me!!!

Brady Clark

Postby sousa » Sat Nov 01, 2008 8:40 pm

First, thanks to Jet for posting the ratings; I knew my team was pretty average, and now I have empirical proof that they suck.

Second, does anybody here like Brady Clark? I have had really good success with a cheap-o left field platoon with Clark playing against lefties, sometimes Tyner or Gathright against righties. Clark has regularly ended up with an OBP near .400, and Tyner and Gathright end up at 360+ and can run. Manning LF for less than 2M creates lots of other options for putting together a team. Am I wrong to think this way?

In $80M leagues I do like to save some $$ for at least one position so that I can divest a disproportionate amount on a few elite players.

If I'm going to go cheap somewhere, I would prefer it to be at an important defensive position and get a guy like Omar Vizquel, John McDonald, or Juan Uribe at SS, Alex Cora or Craig Counsell at 2B, Cory Sullivan in CF, or Brian Schneider at C, so at least you have someone making the plays there.

Tyner and Clark have clearly both been overachievers for you so far this season, so I guess I'd just ride them out, but I wouldn't count on them consistently. I don't see too many sub $1M players hitting .300 and up and a routine basis.

Clark's OB in the average park is .436, that's *if* you rolled on his card every time. So, I wouldn't expect an OB of .400. The biggest problem with Clark is that he's weak v LHP such that any HRs off of the pitchers card turn into singles. Gathright's OB is .412, but should hit pretty decently. Again, he's weak. Still, for that little bit of money, you can fatten up everywhere. The problem is, as Dave refers to tangentally is that you can usually get good hitters in LF whereas it's not so easy other places.

Still, if you're going with a Jeter team with a good 2b and CA, it's about the only way you're going to get under the cap.
