ATG IV 16 event Franchise League

Postby AeroDave10 » Thu Nov 20, 2008 8:01 pm

I know we have at least three more draft picks to make, but I just want to throw something out there for people to think about. If there seems to be a surplus of quality at a certain position, please let us know so that maybe some pre-draft and immediate post-draft trades can be made. I have already made one deal since I seemed to have a lot of decent 2B available to me. I know some positions are hard to fill, so this could be a good mutually beneficial opportunity to bring in a few non-franchise ringers ;)

Think we need some clarification on trading... I'm not sure how any players who have not been drafted and/or protected can be traded?

For instance: Dave Parker (Pit).... I have not protected him and he has not been drafted... don't see how he could be traded until someone has claimed the rights to him by drafting/protecting him.

As of this moment, based on the format of the rules, he is equally available to Pit, Cincy, Milw Brewers, A's, Angels, Tor.

I would think any player available to you who you either claim during the draft or in the pre-season is eligible. If I were interested in Dave Parker, and nobody else picked him up during the preseason, Novie could pick him up and trade him to me, most likely for some guy that I have access to that he doesn't (e.g. Billy Williams).

Re: Trades

[quote:15970c245b="majicmg"]Sorry for missing your previous question, AeroDave. As I related in a PM, it was definitely unintentional. He wanted clarification regarding trades. Here's my concept for the new season:

If you own a player, whether franchised to your team or not, you can trade him to any other team that's able to use him. If he is one of your franchise guys, the franchise tag will no longer apply to him once he moves and he can be dealt again if the new owner wishes.

There have been previous comments yearning for more trade action. This should bring it about.[/quote:15970c245b]

Dave,

I interpreted this to mean that you could trade a player to another team so long as the player had played for that franchise at some point. When majicmg said, "If you own a player... you can trade him to any other team that's able to use him," I assumed "able to use him" meant the player had played for that franchise.

majicmg,

Since this is your rule and "able to use him" could mean a couple of different things, you'll have to let us know what's legal as far as trading goes. Can I trade Luke Appling from my White Sox to Idanred's Orioles for Cal Ripken?

Right on, jp. This is exactly why I asked repeatedly about trading.

Here's the problem.... what if a team is setting their draft up and intend to draft a player in round 5 and then a trade is announced five minutes before hand? Hardly seems right... especially considering that there is some discrepancy and we are in the middle of the draft. As of right now, unless I missed something, AeroDave traded a 2B to someone and I have no idea who or to whom... what if I wanted to draft him, or worse yet DID draft him before the trade is announced.... or, if there was a trade made prior to the draft or early in the draft and it still hasn't been anounced... that throws a persons draft completely off. This is NOT a good situation!

I could have sat here, kept my mouth shut and drafted a CHC 2B and then let the real turmoil begin.

And, as per the essence of the rules... we are drafting and protecting players, I hardly see how ANYONE owns the rights to any player that has not been designated? The rules certainly don't stipulate that to be the case.

My opinion of this whole 16 round theme would be able to use him would mean had to play for that franchise unless it was specified WAY BEFORE NOW that we could have a certain amount of non-franchise players on our roster

Why does this always come up halfway through a draft?

Some franchises are gonna be hard to make compete so 16 rounds

Don't try to screw up the theme

My Tigers are probably gonna suck but I accept that and gonna try to change that with players that were once Tigers

Every franchise has some sleepers 1AB 1 IP makes them legal for your team

Example Cal Ripken playing for anyone but the Orioles in this theme would be a JOKE

NUFF SAID!!!!!!!!

Not to name names (Eddie Cicotte) but does 18 IP count as a sleeper?

What, me bitter... Well at least I have Billy Pierce as a back up plan... um, I mean, looks like Doc White

I'm in no position to complain though, seeing as I have Earl Averill and all 17 of his AB's patroling CF for my Braves in season 3.

I agree, as would Appling playing for anyone but the White Sox, but since I stated after our last debate that it was the sole responsibility of the manager making the rules to clear up any ambiguity in the rules, we've got to wait for majicmg to weigh in.

Novie,

I can guarantee that this is not happening. Even if it is happening, it doesn't matter because if somebody trades a player they haven't claimed and then you pick him in the draft, he's yours according to the rules for this season. There is no ambiguity here at all.

Also, if people are making trades you should post them here so that everyone knows what is going on.
