yeah gorshar could do just what you posted. I suppose I misplayed it looking back. I was assuming gorshar wanted one but not both Allen and Cash so as to not have to play two 4s in the field and that being in a balanced park would rather have the more complete Allen than Cash.

Being lefty parked, I was forced to go up on Cash and was hoping to convey to gorshar that he could get Allen much cheaper than Cash but I just couldn't get him to stop bidding and upping the bid by 400-500k. I also didn't want to intentionally slow bid as this thing takes long enough as it is and its just inconsiderate of others.

Looks like my loss on Cash but probably someone else's gain as you'll likely get Allen for cheaper as gorshar gets Cash and doesn't keep jacking the Allen bid. I suppose it would be interesting to see how two 4s would do on D in a league like this.

Yes I could, and with hard hitting 3Bs few and far between, I might. I've run and won with teams having 4s at LF, 3B, and/or 1B. I've won with Kiner in LF, Wilson in CF, Ruth in RF. A 4, a 3, and a 3.

gorshar and bbw have money to spend

Postby dlarkins » Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:16 pm

these two have skillfully saved their money and are in great position to dominate the remaining top players.

whatever strategies they have used in bidding on players has seemingly been working well

To get this off of the bid thread...

Postby bkeat23 » Wed Mar 04, 2009 10:21 am

IMO, as long as there's a possibility of a higher bid, we continue as is.
If someone has money left to spend over .5, then they shouldn't be penalized. If all one can do is spend .5 per roster spot, they live with the situation they created. If you don't have any money and get outbid, that's the way it goes

Once everyone is down to only the possibility of .5 players is a scenario worthy of discussion.

We had discussed something like going down the list from the last owner that won a bid down the list of teams as displayed in the East/Central/West listing waaay back on this thread.

I'd be OK with a scenario in the last player won at a price that brings the last owner with discretionary budget down to only haviong enough cash to fill with nickel player. He names a player for .5 and wins sicn eno one else can bid. Instead of allowing this person to fill their roster by virtue of winning the bid, we go down the list as in the para above. With this, there is still the possibility, if not likelyhood, that someone will still be making 2 or 3 picks in a row and unchallenged to fill the roster after all others are done.

Off the soapbox now. :D

25 players. The draft won't work otherwise.

It's a no-trade, no FA league so I guess you might as well keep the 25.

The players we draft (25) are the players we're stuck with for 162 games. We cannot make any transactions, according to BobBoone's rules and intent.

I do think we'll just need to set up a draft order, but ONLY after all 12 teams are down to .50-only players to fit the roster.

And it won't be that near in the future. In total we are drafting 300 players and we have not yet auctioned off one-third of that total. Even if we average 8 nickel guys per roster, we're still more than 100 players from that point in time. And we've gone almost 8 weeks to get these first 100 players. So, it is likely that we won't be to that nickel-only draft portion before tax day (to keep with the money theme, April 15), maybe even not until late April (29th would be 8 weeks from today).
