B.Y.O.B. - PREP FOR DRAFT

Postby johnlaw1564 » Tue Oct 16, 2007 12:59 pm

BurnYourOutageBaseballCreditLeague

This is a two season keeper league.

1st Season - 2007
$80 MIL CAP / DH
8 round live draft on the site (7 players + unique stadium in any round)
Serpentine draft - draft order by 2007 winning % at time of sign-up (worst to first)
Incentive to win this season - 2008 league draft order determined by 2007 season (best to worst; not serpentine)
Divisions 1-4 / 5-8 / 9-12 per draft order
No transactions after game 80
Waivers/Advanced/20% drop

2nd Season - 2008
$100 MIL CAP / DH
8 KEEPERS from 2007 season
8 round live draft w/ unique stadiums (sometime after everyone has fulfilled other keeper league committments)
Only one 2008 season; no long term committment or minor league or need to draft prospects

I just realized I never copied league rules into new thread. I thought the non-serpentine draft would be extra incentive to win this year plus NO TRANSACTIONS after game 80 would also help to keep this year competitive. In regard to the draft, I left 6 proxies after last round and missed on all of them: Rowand, Lowell, Vizquel, Haren, Bedard, and the one that really hurt ... Joe Nathan! I have used him nearly every team this year - he has won the CY YOUNG almost every time as well as an MVP. Look's like I may go on the cheap for a closer this time.

Agreed that the incentive is a good thing. It's just that it seems TOO harsh. For example, I think if we did two rounds non serpentine . My point is this. If we all try to balance as well as we can we still will end up with teams that have the 10th 11th and 12th best records, thereby getting ripped for 7 rounds in the 08 draft. Anyone of us may finish last even if we are attempting to win 07. What do others think?
Also, John, how are we breaking ties for the 08 draft- by head to head then division?

Well, it may not look like teams are tanking now, but what happens if someone is 10 gms back after 78 gms played? I think if we switch to a serpentine draft it will be very hard for those teams to not tank it. Maybe if the 1st 4 rounds were non-snake I could see it, but 2 rounds is not that big a deal, especially when there are a TON of talented players for next year who do not have a card this year, at least 2 rounds' worth....

I personally do not really care whether we go Serpentine or NFL style, although I do think NFL style is better suited for normal keeper leagues.

Since this league has an incentive to do well in 2007, that really doesnt apply - but even if I finish last, as long as the draft format is layed out in advance I wouldnt be too upset if I had the #12 pick in an NFL style format draft.

I don't think anyone is going to tank 2007 for 2008, and if they do, let them - everyone should have known going into the draft that next years 2008 draft is from first to worst.

Besides it is only fair for those that had a higher win % in 2007, that if you do well in the 2007 season that you get rewarded in the 2008 draft, since those of us with better winning % had the worse draft position in the 2007 draft.

Terry asked ... Also, John, how are we breaking ties for the 08 draft- by head to head then division? YES. That sounds good.
