Bullpen insight.
First,
[quote:8fae85a95d]the team I played the other night had 9 lefties in the lineup and unfortunately I had to pitch Doc Medich who is a 7R righty. So I set him to Quick Hook and avoid lefty hitters thinking it would pull him right away and use my bullpen. But alas he pitched 7 innings and took the loss!

The game engine will not "quick hook" a SP unless he's reached the endurance rating, from what I have figured out. So, that seems normal, without knowing any more particulars of the game. And usually, if the bullpen is already taxed from previous games usage, then HAL will use the SP even more heavily to avoid burning the pen even more.
Next,
[quote:8fae85a95d]I have been reading somewhat negative comments, posted on the message boards, by various managers, pertaining to ATGIV. The main areas of discontent seem to relate to the high offensive numbers being put up by a majority of teams, and the unpredictability associated with the bullpens in general. [/quote:8fae85a95d]
The way ATG is set up right now, hitters absolutely rule the game. There is no way around it. A major part of the problem is the way pitchers are handled. Whether it's SPs being PH for early, the wrong RPs being used, etc. I also believe that the pricing for pitchers is off - just look at how we're drafting. We'll pay a premium for an offensive stud, but we'll low-ball every pitcher. I'm not saying Tim Keefe should be $4M, but the pitching prices should be lower, particularly since the game favors hitting.
Lastly, I ama a tester in the bullpen logic project. We've been at this since September. It's amazing what goes into it, and I don't even see what Bernie has to see (the code). There have been many instances where he has been reading and searching the code just to answer our questions on why something happens, because once the testers know why something happens we can then relate it to game scenarios to see if the why is even appropriate.
We just received another set of games to look at from the latest build last night. I spent some time today finding some problems with the game results; things that Bernie must now figure out why they happened when the new build was supposed to fix them not exasperate them.
I think we're probably 8 weeks away from the new game engine being in place. Once it is, the game will be MUCH better. Trust me. I'm sure people will still find faulty logic and things to complain about, but it is MUCH better.
Since we test the same teams over and over using each new code build, it makes it easy to see some changes on the surface, such as lower SLG and lower ERA.
I can't divulge any specifics about the project or the new codes, etc. until it launches, but ATG will be better for all the time this has taken.
