Give & Take Theme League/CHAT

Well I'll be playing my injury prone players til the end of the season ... Frank Thomas wants to beat out A. Jones for the HR title. And we want to pad our Team HR totals ... already leading the league by almost 50 dingers. :)

1 Day to go!

Postby Jeepdriver » Fri Aug 11, 2006 7:38 am

Geekor's Engine clinches the Central...Congrats to him and to Hawk who fought a good fight to the next-to-last day.

The WC must come from the West, that spot is clinched. The only thing not settled is who wins the West and who is the WC. Obviously LMB is in the cat-bird-seat for the Divisional Title.

It's been a good year...except for the 3 teams in the East who chunked it after Sandy sped by them around mid-season. :(

It all comes down to tonight - who will win the most important award of them all? Who will be the HR Champ of the league? ;)

A. Jones & T. Clark are tied for the lead with 54, but F. Thomas is but 1 behind with 53. Clark will be on the road in a semi-unfriendly park as the SH Clark bats as a LH in Wrigley. Meanwhile A. Jones will be at home in Turner Field, but has hit more of his HR on the road (24 at home to 30 away).

On the other hand, crowd favourite 'The Big Hurt' will be at home in the very friendly confines of US Cellular, where he has slugged 35 HR at a .760 SLG clip. Furthermore he may see 1 or even 2 LH SP and Thomas has literally feasted on them with 17 HR in 92 AB and a mammoth 880 SLG. Not that he hasn't done well vs. RH with about 1 HR per 15 AB.

Will the homepark advantage & possible lefties be enough to help Thomas surpass Jones & Clark for the crown? Stay tuned tonight! 8)

You could see my team get po'd at Jack for not starting any LHP after his pre-game starters suggested otherwise. ;) They demolished his squad with a vengeance!

Our whole team was rooting for Thomas to win the HR Crown and he came pretty close! Congratulations to T. Clark.

Congratulations & good luck to the playoff squads. :)

[b:285897b93e]Team Awards:[/b:285897b93e]

MVP - Frank Thomas

Missed 39 games but still drove in 101 runs and slammed 54 HR. Almost scored 100 as well.

CY Young - Dontrelle Willis

My only starter with double digit wins & a winning record. ;) Gotta say that my late season pickup of Glavine was good ... maybe I should never have cut him pre-season in the first place.

Rolaids Relief - Rick Helling

Solid performance from Helling! Of course if this was the Tour I'd lose (another) 10 points. Not much one can do when one has 6 relievers and HAL gives Helling so many IP (I didnt set any settings for Helling other than maybe listing him as Setup). Besides he's an R3. :)

Surprise Performance - Lance Berkman

Wasn't sure what to expect from him, so I was quite pleased with the performance he gave & the # of games he played in. :)

Disappointing Performance - Majewski

I wasnt expecting him to be an ace or anything, but had hoped for an ERA closer to 4 and a WHIP nearer 1.40 ... and he led the team in blown saves. :(

My team slaughtered LHP ... if only I had (a) made it better vs. RH pitching, and kept Glavine & co rather than try Kameron Loe and the other failed SP experiments ... might have had a chance at the WC. ;)

Thanks to HAL for using Hawkins properly! :)

Man, I'm glad that's over...you guys killed my winning percentage! Haven't lost 100 since 2002...

Edmonds and Bay were huge disappointments and Chipper was subpar...also never got my pitching straightened out...

That was a rough one.
