[quote:1b7d588965="Al Hogg"]After everybody is on board with the first round, you will have a three-hour window between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Eastern to make your pick. Clock is off on weekends, but continuing to move the draft forward is highly encouraged. PM'ing proxy choices is also highly encouraged.[/quote:1b7d588965]

The clock is off until the first round is finished. BED (known to many of us as SGT D) is usually extremely good about letting everyone know when he will be away from the computer. He was "bumping" up the sign up thread, so I know he is eager to begin. Usually the first round is much slower than the others. (Seventy-two hours, mostly over a weekend, isn't all that bad for getting the first 21 picks.) I am guessing BED is operating under the assumption that it would not be to him yet. (That said, if somebody has a phone number for him, feel free to give him a call. I believe he has left it in prior draft threads, but I couldn't find it.)

We're only going four rounds with the draft: Three players and a unique stadium. TomSiebert was arguing for more on the sign-up thread; I don't think anybody joined in his argument.

The thing about a league with a $60 million cap is, as I am finding out from the RiggoDrill Challenge League, is there is still is enough left on the free agent list to put together a decent team even after the other 24 teams are complete. (Some positions are tight: I already warned about shortstop, for example.)

And, thanks, Marcus Wilby, for hanging with us. It was certainly not the intent to make this a "Riggo-beats-the-crowd" theme. Hey, he only wins one out of every 6.3 leagues he is in! That means he doesn't win 5.3 out of 6.3 leagues. If the rest of you all pick shortstops and leave him with nothing but a fielding dud to play there, I bet he'll regret not drafting any players!

resounding arguement AGAINST adding ANY extra rounds...we've been on sarge's pick all day. there is nothing more tedious in strat, or in life period then checking a draft thread off and on throughout the day, and seeing NO progress.

Couple thoughts, as I take a night off from SXSW before I end up dead from sheer exhaustion.

1- I promise you, nobody's going to get skunked on players. I'm in a 24 team league, $60MM cap, and the frenzy went on for a week, there were always good players available. It'll be okay.

2- A longer live draft would be better, but now that we've agreed upon 4 rounds and people made their picks assuming such, we should stick it out.

3- I still don't see, really, how RiggoDrill gets any kind of advantage without drafting.

4- Sarge, I lost your cell # when I got a new phone -- only about 50% of my numbers carried over for some inexplicable reason -- which is why I didn't text you today that you were up. Please resend me your cell # in a PT.

Goodnight.

Hey Guys, I hate live drafts and, what the heck, I mean..., I just thought I'd be nice. I have decided to give the rest of you a chance since I am so totally dominant in 60 mil 24-team leagues.

Do you know how depressed [b:ea23363790]luckyman [/b:ea23363790]is that he got stuck in my division? Right now, he's up there in Quebec crying over his nightly plate of [i:ea23363790]Poutine[/i:ea23363790]. Really, I almost feel sorry for him.

Hey, if anyone has objections, you can make my picks by proxy. Go ahead, put any player on my team. I might drop them later, but I'll put them on my draft card. Seriously. I mean, it's like not even fair. [[color=darkred:ea23363790]NOTE TO SELF: Where's that swollen head emoticon?[/color:ea23363790]] 8-)

Like I said, guys, whatever Riggo wants.

What's the point of doing a partly-live draft if guys just give up doing their part in the live draft, I still wonder, but anyway, I'm sure I'm overreacting...

On to the Second Round

Postby Al Hogg » Tue Mar 16, 2010 3:52 am

The clock is indeed on. Curt has until 1 p.m. Eastern to make his pick, but I'm sure he'll go earlier. A technical note: People at the ends of the snake have two picks in a row, so technically they have three hours per pick, but please show up in the three-hour window (or much, much sooner) and just make both picks.

[quote:ed12791082="he's meat"]if we were to go to a longer draft, it'd be best to go to the somdraft.com sight so we can skip and set proxies and a clock.[/quote:ed12791082]

I missed this earlier. I think I was typing my comment above at the same time Meat was posting. The www.somdraft.com site is not set up for 24-team leagues.

Thanks, RiggoDrill, for checking in here and letting folks know what you are up to. I don't personally see the point in assigning him players to put on his draft card that he will drop later. (Although it is an interesting intellectual exercise: What three players would be the worst possible combination to have on a draft card? Probably three expensive redundant players. Pujols, AGonzalez, and Youkilis - the latter already picked, I know - seem like a good combo; they would would take up about $33 million of the $60 million.)

I'm definitely motivated to try to make sure RiggoDrill will not have much to pick from, though, so I am letting the cat out of the bag as to where the other shortages (in addition to shortstop) in a 24-team league seem to be: Second base and starting pitching. It can't happen now, but if everyone took a good-fielding shortstop, a good-fielding second baseman, and a stud starting pitcher, it would be tough, I think, for RiggoDrill to put together a winning Progressive Field team.

I nominate Tony Pena(SS) for Riggo. :D Nice pick btw Sarge. I noticed one of Riggo's team on an earlier post I mentioned and he had Linecum, Vazquez and Lester in a 60 mill. league. That's over 20 mill right there. Glad this got resolved.
