Kurt Suzuki not available

Postby qksilver69 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:56 pm

Hi guys,

Somehow Kurt Suzuki was left off of Ted's 40-man, we will add him back on, remove him from availables, and delete last FA pick for Ted.

Thx,
D

Thank you Qk. That means that I've got 8 picks here in this draft, 4 more remaining to fill some of the holes.

AFD, 2012 SOM release

Postby qksilver69 » Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:34 pm

Not on weekends, M-F only. However given where we are in the draft & how many picks he has left, if he is truly gone & not checking in til next week, we'll skip and let him pick when he comes back.

BTW SOM just tweeted that they will take game orders on Jan 18th and opening day (release) will be Feb 10. Given that they usually release the ratings in mid Jan I am glad we got the draft in now.

I wasn't worried about AFD, his usual MO is to come on and say "just skip me" for the last 4 or 5 rounds, I was worried about me, as I'm goona be offline for quite a bit tomorrow.

what does "competitive" mean?

Postby qksilver69 » Fri Jan 06, 2012 1:14 pm

Hey gang, given the scenario we just went through, I was approached privately and asked how I define "competitive" when I say I want owners who will contribute to league health by striving to be competitive. I thought it a very fair question given the circumstances so I'll spell out the behaviors that come to mind:

- [b:38f04607bb]Proactively[/b:38f04607bb] takes steps in every phase of the game to improve their team: FA draft, prospect draft, trade opportunities.

- Is engaged and active and communicates well within the league; responds to emails in a timely manner even if to say "no thanks", makes the effort to get full market value in trades.

- Develops and executes a plan for their team appropriate to the circumstances, taking divisional and overall league strength into account. (Sidenote: AFD last year is the shining example of this, as he took a team that was solid but not exceptionally talented, as measured by starting payroll, and took it to the playoffs in Season 1 and a title in Season 2.)

- Even if rebuilding a team, strives to get the most out of their talent; does not "tank" a season by benching their best players, not setting lineups or making injury subs, etc. Though he fell short in other areas, NHS was very adept at this particular aspect of the game.

Please note that I understand that there is more than one way to skin a cat, and I also know that there are ebbs & flows in terms of how much time any of us can invest in Strat, but I do want to see owners in this group that pretty consistently show the above behaviors.

As always, happy to answer any questions.
