BTW for those that care here's a recap of my ESPN trip from earlier this week:
First, it wasn't an "official" visit. I just went down to see my old college roomie and some other people I know down there and to tour the facilities. As I said before, I do have an application in for a job that I am qualified for, but of course, there's a lot of competitition.
ESPN itself is [size=24:99f7208cfa][b:99f7208cfa]H U G E[/b:99f7208cfa] [/size:99f7208cfa]
It's unbelievable how big it has gotten in just the last 13 years since I was on campus last. For a TV guy like, me it's Nirvana. They have all the latest toys. Some are so new ESPN gets the "joy" of working out the bugs for the companies that make them before they are in wide distribution.
To give you an example of how big they are, There's an entire BUILDING, thats dedicated to just the little crawls at the bottom of the screens on their various networks. That's all the people in the building do is make sure the information is current and running correctly.
They currently employ 6000 people on the Bristol campus Working on 7 different ESPN TV networks + ESPN Radio, don't think the magazine is located there though.
All that said, there are some drawbacks to working there if I get the gig, hours tend to change every 6 months as they rotate schedules, cost of living in Bristol Connecticut is E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E as it's near Hartford and New York, and the biggie would be moving my immediate family away from extended family, granted it's only 4 and 1/2 hours away, but it would still be tough.
I still need to get an interview though, and like most large corporations, the Disney Company moves at a glacial rate when it comes to hirings, so who knows what myt future will bring...
