NLD 13 Draft thread

Postby Ninersphan » Sun Jun 04, 2006 7:51 pm

WAA HOOO!!! Welp it's official, I'm no longer among the ranks of the unemployed. Just got off the phone with my new boss. Starting on July 16th I'll be the new Director of Graduate Applications at Syracuse University. What's that mean? I have no idea, but the good people at the University seem to think I can handle it and saw fit to give me the position.
The only downside is it means my "chosen" profession of television director is now over, probably for good. It was a BLAST while it lasted and I'm sure there will be days I'll miss it but this job has to many good things going for it to pass up.

1. Normal Hours. I've never worked an 8-5 job monday through friday, It's always been late nights or early mornings or weekends. This will be a refreshing change.

2. Pay is pretty good, comprable to what I was making as a director in this market

3. College tutioon paid for for my immediate family, having 2 young daughters, I can honestly say this is a HUGE reason for my accepting the position

4. I DON"T HAVE TO MOVE :D . I didn't really want to move my wife and kids away from the rest of the family. All of my and my wifes family are here in Syracuse so this was a big plus for me.

This might mean NLD 14 is a little late getting rolling, unless we get under way before the 16th, but the good news is my disposable income should be returning so I'll be able to participate in NLD 14 which, truth be told, was lookin' a little dicey.

It's nice when good things happen for good people. A super job, a regular life and college paid for two daughters. That's a heck of a day.

Congratulations! :D

Congrats Niner. The only thing I can't figure out is why someone wants to live where summer is July and the rest of the year is Winter. :P  In all seriousness, congrats big time.

Also, would like to wish Beach GL in tonight's Semi's, and also to QK and AT...the battle of the initials!

Summer is July huh, apparently you missed the 2 days we had here in the Ninties about a week ago.

You are right the snow does suck, but Both my family and my Wifes are here, and both are getting older, if you know what I mean. Everyone is in good health for now, but given the age of my parents and my wifes, don't know long that will last. Morbid I know but it is a concern.

Thanks for all the encouragement though guys it means alot.

Obviously just razzing you about the weather, and yes being near family is very important. Also, having a job is important, not just for the obvious things ($$) but for one's own health and peace of mind. This little strat thing we do is very low on the totum pole compared to the real life stuff.

Does this mean ESPN is out, or do you still want to leave that avenue open?

It probably means it's out. my wife isn't crazy about relocating to Connecticut, cause the cost of living there is so high. There's also downsides to working there, they rotate schedules every 6 months, So I could be working 4-midnight for 6 months then overnights on ESPN news etc. They'd really have to throw a boatload of money at me, and that probably won't happen.

Of course they also haven't contacted me about an interview either, so it may be a moot point.

Bottom line is having the college tuition paid for for my daughters is a HUGE benefit. They don't have to attend SU eiother, the University has reciprocal agreement with 140 other schools.

It's tough and this has been an agonizing process but there's something to be said for quality of life and being able to be home for my daughters.

Jeep, I fully expect to be swept by your juggernaut. Rolling through a NLD is no easy feat. I believe your boys were in first place every day of the season, never worse than #2 overall and truly deserving of having the best record in the league. 8)

My guys snuck into the Wild Card on the last night of the year. We do feel fortunate just to be in the playoffs. Nonetheless, in the interest of fair play and to preserve the integrity of the game of baseball itself, I have asked them to show up at the ballpark tonight, instructed them to give it their all, and hope thay can put on a good show for the fans in the hostile environment that is Jeep Stadium.

Best of luck tonight. You probably don't have anything to worry about. The Wild Card team nevers wins the Championship in SOM, do they?
