Postby QUEDOG69 » Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:52 pm

Can we trade future year picks? (2013 FA or Prospect picks)

Jay,

No, you can only keep 25-30 after making your promotions. I believe we debated the merits of both ways a few years back and decided that this was the best option.

Steve,

Yes, you can. I will make a page on the online sheet reflecting future drafts soon. Please try to keep it within reason, though and trade mostly in the next year or so.

Prospect Promotion Question Clarification

Postby JayW527 » Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:55 pm

Let me re-phrase the question re: prospect Promotion.

During the FA draft (after we have made the necessary Prospect promotions/releases), we should be able to promote a remaining prospect in place of making a draft pick. The rules state a prospect can be promoted anytime that there is available roster space. I just want to make this clear if the need to do so presents itself.

Jay,

We dealt with this a while back when Litangel had the same questions you do. You can see the way we talked about doing it on page 11 of this thread. It makes it much clearer. I'll post the relevant part here:

Promotions are only allowed after the cuts for either the annual or the supplemental FA drafts, before the draft starts. You still need to have 10 open slots at the start of the annual draft.

For the supplemental one, you are allowed as many cuts as you want for promotions, but are still limited to 3 picks in the draft. (i.e. you can cut 7 players, promote 4 and have 3 picks).

As of right now, two years from when you draft each prospect, you must decide to promote them or cut them. I think we should tie each prospect draft to the nearest FA draft, and have the cuts/promotions due two years from that draft. Thus, the prospects we drafted in May or June of last year will need to be promoted by next year's annual FA draft or be released.

Billy,

Can you add some clarifications to the rules post on page 1 to reflect that when you have a chance?

Speaking of Litangel, has anyone heard from him? I sent him a few emails a while back and he never responded. It is weird because he has been historically a very active member of the league. We will definitely need to push back the due date for drops as well. Perhaps a week from tomorrow, the 23rd?

Prospect Rule on Page 11.

Postby JayW527 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:59 pm

Thanks for listing the page of that discussion re: promoting of prospects and hopefully page 1 can be updated since the information is no longer valid and I may forget about this and start this discussion all over again next year.

Since I really don't understand the reasoning behind not allowing prospect promotions during the draft:

Does anyone see the problem with deciding to promote one of your current prospects in place of making a draft pick during the draft. I would expect this to take place at the end of the draft but it could take place at anytime.

If I have a prospect that I decide I would like to use this year instead of the available players in the draft, then what problems would this cause to pick my prospect in stead of an existing FA.

Remember this is done after we have made the promotions and drops of the 2 year old prospect.

Other than making things easier to track, I don't see the need of restricting the promoting of prospects.

I'm really just curious on the logic behind restricting promotions to only the time before the FA draft.

Don't mean to recreate the wheel, but what am I missing here?

Thanks for the time you have already put into this,
Jay

Jay,

There are two schools of thought, one is that the prospects should count towards keepers, the other is that they should not. If we choose the former, then the Spring FA draft has a bit more talent available, and is more interesting. The latter has the opposite effect.

Both would have been equally valid ways of doing it, and since the rules we took from the other league to form this one didn't really specify, we made the decision to go with a more interesting draft, and less keepers. It does make for some tougher decisions, for sure, as I'm struggling with my last few cuts, but that just means there will be some useful players available for the draft.
