[quote:ba3e98abe8="AeroDave10"]Kev, what's with the two RFs? Hart [u:ba3e98abe8]and[/u:ba3e98abe8] The Werewolf?[/quote:ba3e98abe8]

Got Werthless in Centerfield. I'm assuming he will get a favorable CF rating. If not....can we trade after the cards come out?

[quote:19bf57e252="Jerlins"]Would like some clarification before it gets to be a controversy, as it was last year in one of our pre-card leagues. Last year, a couple of people drafted over the hitting/pitching limits, gambling that certain players received cards from TSN. This "loophole" allowed the player to just go ahead and select a .50 player (either a hard LH or RH RP, for example) once the cards came out.

Can we close this loophole and keep rosters at the min/max allowed by TSN's guidelines and stop the "gaming the game" before it begins?[/quote:19bf57e252]

I didn't think we had any other choice but to draft within the limits. I agree with Jerlins.

Was debating last round on Hanigan, Gardner, and Betimet. I figured Gardner wouldn't make it back to me, but was hoping Betimet would.

Betemit should have a decent stick, but will be a true iron glove if wockenfuss has to put him out there.

Gardner should be really strong defensively, good range and good arm, with really good wheels. Good OBP, too.

Don't know about Hanigan. Ok bat, but catcher defense always seems to be a toss-up.

I don't see how you can game the system unless you pick only 10-12 pitchers and one or two don't get cards. I don't understand how you can game the system by drafting [i:ad70181c17]over[/i:ad70181c17] the limits. It is my understanding that you draft 28 players. If a few don't have cards, that's too bad- you play with 25 or 26. If it turns out that you have only 10 legal pitchers- you should be able to put a .5 in to fill the draft card- then be required to drop the pitcher after the draft.

There should be no way to draft a free agent. At least that's how I read the rules.

Easily done. Let's say my game plan all along is to have one hard RH and one hard LH RP regardless of the rest of my pitching staff. Well, most of those guys are .50 and in some instances pretty darn good for the role they play. Whats to stop me from picking only 9 pitchers at the draft, and 19 hitters, the last 2 on the cusp of getting a card (ie Garret Jones from a year ago). If he get's a card, great, I'll just cut someone else and keep him, since I can only have 17 hitters on my team anyway, and go ahead and grab that hard lefty or righty I fully intended to have on my team anyway. But, if I can only draft 17 hitters max, and he's one of them, well, if he doesn't end up with a card, I gambled and lost, and his replacement is a .50 player. You can work it in reverse with pitchers, as there is actually one or two with a high risk but ample rewards if they get a card. So maybe I'd want to "game the system" by picking 13 pitchers, and if they all get a card, drop the worst one, and pick up a .50 09 Paul Janish type defensive specialist as my replacement.

This example was done in a pre-card draft either last year or two years ago. The manager actually selected over the maximum number of hitters for this exact purpose. It was brought out that he was over the limit during the draft, and he actually admitted that was the strategy he wanted to employ. If I thought I could find the thread in 15 minutes, I'd actually post a link, and the debate that followed.

That's why we should make it clear ahead of time that managers have to stay within the maximum of players. I'm just looking to close the loophole.

The final decision on Hanigan over the other two was the fact that in a $200 league you really can't afford to give up a hitting spot, and Hanigan will at least provide some OBP in front of my all or nothing Gonzalez and Young picks. Take away the doubles per at bat, and disregarding the defense, you basically have Joe Mauer stats with Hanigan. He wasn't hurt during the year, so I'd expect him to have a 2 injury.

On a side note, if I can't find that thread, I'm sure Palmtana could find it with no trouble at all. I've seen some really out of whack questions answered by him by linking to threads from what seems like years ago!! I have no clue how he does it, but if theres "The Answer Man" of SOM, he's the one, bar none. The guy is a pure genius in that regard.
