I agree with this sentiment completely and I'm willing to go either way on this without too much argument. I was just trying to help us improve the import of the coming spring draft.

Ok. I'm at about $0.37 now, and it's the last of it.

Really.

Ok, now really.

Prospect

Postby PracticalDoc » Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:36 pm

I really don't care either way about when or if we draft, I just want us all to agree on what is considered a prospect. Isn't it a gamble to pick now when we don't even know if there will be a strato card for the player next year?

[quote:acd34bf738="tcochran"][b:acd34bf738]And here's the email I just sent to tech support for the draft site:[/b:acd34bf738]

Sorry to bother you again, but an issue came up today because the 2-hour timer on the SOM draft site is not synchronized with the 10AM - 10PM draft window that we'd like to use.

What happened is this:
...Manager hkmossy made pick #253 at 4:39AM
...Proxies followed at 4:40AM for picks #254-257.
...Thus, manager dreamingtree41 should have had a draft window from 10AM to noon, for pick #258.
...For reasons unknown, the system allowed the next manager to make a pick #259 at 10:46 (instead of waiting until noon).

What setting can we change, in order to keep this from happening again?

Is there a menu selection somewhere that I've missed, that will allow us to monitor the times properly?

Thanks for your help.[/quote:acd34bf738]

[b:acd34bf738]Draft site tech replied a few minutes ago, and I quote here the entire message:

"No idea to be honest. I didn’t program the site. I just host it.'[/b:acd34bf738]

With that reply from the draft site tech, I guess that just means we need to be conscious about our draft pick timing -- after all, how hard can it be to figure out a 2-hour window between 10AM and 10PM, right?

Oh, wait, sometimes that can be ...

Nah, I won't go there. How about this: [b:3dffbbedba]SET YOUR PROXIES, so that the timing becomes irrelevant!!![/b:3dffbbedba]

We're almost 2/3 of the way done now, guys, let's work to complete this as soon as we can, okay?

It just dawned on me that I'm the one that created this fiasco. I apologize to Dreamingtree for jumping the gun on your pick and for all the work I've created for everyone else. I don't know why it didn't register with me that DT41 was still within his window and the system didn't red flag or disalow the pick. So until I started reading this thread I was in the dark to the problem that I started. Again, sorry.

Re: Everybody aware draft has restarted?

Postby tpiercersn@aol.com » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:02 pm

Only 2 managers -- [b:1e557b6938]tompierce and mikelopp[/b:1e557b6938] -- have neither made "live" picks nor posted here since the restart. In addition, they have not sent me their email addresses, so they may not even be aware that we have had a few issues to work out.

Email address: TPierceRSN@aol.com

Thanks

OK, everybody has drafted "live" and/or checked in, so the 2-hour clock can officially go back into effect in the morning (whether or not the @#$%! draft site supports it correctly).

Here's a copy of the original post on the prospect draft question and the current vote:

* * * * *

Hi all, I'm the commish for this one. I wrote the prospect draft rules as a way to let those at the bottom of the initial draft order have a shot at the best players not available in the current player set.

On the other hand, I have no problem if a super-majority of 8 managers wishes to cancel this first prospect draft. Let's put it to a vote: Shall we have a prospect draft immediately following the initial player draft? YES or NO?

1. KNIGHT
2. tcochran - YES
3. Mike Lopp
4. Lumbercompanysouth
5. joekendall - YES
6. TomPierce - YES
7. dreamingtree#41

9. kaviksdad - NO
10. Sknsfan - NO
11. JMP1 - YES

I misread the question, so I'm changing my vote:

OK, with KD's vote, that's 5 YES votes -- so a super-majority of 8 NO votes will not be possible. Thus, we WILL have a prospect draft immediately after the initial 40-player draft.

The other question that has arisen is how best to define a prospect. Right now, the rules for this league say that a prospect is any player WHO DID NOT RECEIVE A CARD in the current set. KD and others have said that traditionally the rule would be any player with NO MLB EXPERIENCE prior to the coming season.

For example, Carpenter is a prospect under the current "no-card" rule, since he did not have a card from the 2008 playing season. Under the other "no-MLB" rule, Carpenter would not be a prospect, since he pitched 1 inning or had 1 AB prior to the 2009 season.

So...

Here we go again: Shall the prospect draft use the NO-CARD rule or the NO-MLB experience rule? A super majority of 8 votes for NO-MLB will change the rule for this league.

1. KNIGHT
2. tcochran - NO-CARD
