I don't qwuite understand why my team, and anyone else who traded away a prospect pick, ends up with fewer picks. It should be just like the free agent draft, where if you trade a first round pick you end up with an extra one in round 16, so you still get the same number of players.
So I traded away a pick with the expectation that I would get a third pick in the 4th round. That's how I read the rule, which states...

I guess I've always read it the other way. Since the roster requires a 40 man roster, to me that implied that you had to make picks until you reached your roster size. You aren't required to have a certain minimum of prospects, so I always assumed that when you traded a prospect pick it was gone.

Losing the pick makes it a lot more valuable.....opposite if you get a...what would you call it...final prospect pick at the end of the draft.

Maybe after the season we need a rules review? The league is several years old, and if nothing else some clarification of some points could be in order. Obviously it would have to be after the 2nd season.

You were able to draft 3 prospects. You chose to trade that ability for something else. Also, If we were to go by your interpretation of the rule, we would have to go through and cut any prospects above 3 that anyone drafted, which would make trading prospect picks much more confusing and undesirable.

I don't understand why you thought it would work the way you say, since both of our previous prospect drafts have been 3 rounds, with trades working exactly the way they did in this draft.

I think Russ' idea is great, we can clean up the language of stuff like this (change it to 3 rounds), and debate what works and what doesn't. It would also give us an opportunity to make some changes, since, when we started, most of us didn't know how it would play out (some people want to promote prospects instead of picks or keep 35 players, etc).
