ATG 5 auction bidding

Postby The Jerk Store » Mon Feb 15, 2010 5:51 pm

I actually don't like #2 . . . seems to favor people who are on here more or work earlier hours. I really don't care though, but I do agree that one of the tie-ee's should eventually have to win the player.

Maybe we could do this: If 2 players tie, they re-bid. If they tie again after rebidding, the player is awarded to the person who has the most money left.

a little perspective on the "tie" discussion. First of all, we are not talking about all ties, after a tie there is simply a re-bid, I think that has been working fine. We are only talking about what happens if both owners pass after a tie bid. So we are talking about a fairly small number of occurances with lower end guys, no one will lose a key to their team, or they would not be passing. I have heard about 7 different solutions, every one has pluses an minuses, but I agree that the current rules are inelegant, and I think another choice would be better, which choice is [b:39ecaa209f]not the end of the world.[/b:39ecaa209f] .

I have heard the most positives on,

after both owners pass on a rebid the player is awarded to the owner who bid first in the last round where there were actual bids (not passes).

let's vote on making this change.

The original rule was designed to prevent anyone from having to pay more for a player than they had originally intended.

It is clear this rule must be amended.

Several solutions have been recommended.

And these rhymes were unintended....

Anyway, I agree that giving the player to the manager who bids first favors those who have better computer access. So that's not such a good idea, I think.

I'm inclined to favor a solution along the lines of a coin toss, or as was suggested, choosing a number from 1-20. Of course we can still get ties...

I still like Litangel's #1 of awarding the player to the team with the most open roster slots....again assuming all Passes in tiebreakers... :?

Why Not This!

Postby mjruth » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:13 pm

If both players pass on the re-bid it is awarded to the person with the most money! Here's why!

Assuming if you were rebidding constantly and players had to continue bidding up eventually the player with less money would eventually lose anyway. So if the two players pass give it to the team with the most cash!
That way you don't have to worry about who bid first!

Ok,

i have another possible idea that is random, but simple,

If both owners on a rebid pass, check the New York pick 3 for that day, if the number is odd, the first owner to pass gets the player, if the number is even, the last owner to pass gets the player.

This issue has taken up more attention than it probably deserves, Gorshar, if you don't like this idea, just propose something and i will go long with it.

Unfortunately it's getting so much attention because while we've found plenty of workable solutions, we haven't found *the* workable solution for what to do when both (or all) managers pass on a tie-breaker.

As before I'm leaning towards the equivalent of a coin toss. The lottery idea is fine and I don't care what state it is, though it could lead to a delay of up to 24 hours if anyone cares. Also, we need to know when and where the results are posted. I don't play lotteries and have absolutely no idea when they pick numbers.

We could also award the player based on the best Halle Berry fantasy...
