I was looking at the records of the teams in the 80 milllion dollar league
and here is what I counted as of Saturday

Set 7 = 203 wins
Set 2 = 202 wins
Set 9 = 199 wins
Set 4 = 197 wins
Set 3 = 196 wins
Set 11= 194 wins
Set 5 = 191 wins
Set 1 = 190 wins
Set 10 = 186 wins
Set 6 = 178 wins
Set 12= 170 wins
Set 8 = 168 wins

I'm not so sure that these totals are indicative of how strong the sets will be in the 100 million league.

The only set I'm really concerned about is set 10.

If it can't be competitive, we can adjust the rules for the set. Say, they get a 19 man set requirement.

What do you guys think?

You have 2 set nines in the list. Is one of those a set ten?

First of all, after jumping into the fray with set ten, I can see that this will be a set that will be hard to put together a competitive team. As I look at my choices, I'm wondering if a 500 season is having visions of grandeur.
A few comments on the questions you posed. Set ten is clearly the least desirable set. But there are a couple of other "weak" sets. A good trade or two and things can change considerably....that said, not sure if set 10 has a plethora of players at any one position to offer as trade bait. If the sets are reorganized, they should be reorganized before the league begins, not in mid stream. For me, the nature of the 12 season league means I won't have to have this set again and I can set a reasonable goal for myself for my team. Much like having th 12th pick in the 12 team league.

The Set Ten Underdogs are working on their team logo and on a vigorous publicity campaign. Hey, nobody gave the Cardinals a chance in the playoffs, and look what happened.

I think with the extra 20 million it will be easier to lure higher priced free agents.. 8)

What do you mean, " there are two set 9's listed"? (god I love the edite feature)

My main concern with ten, is that they don't have a 10 miilion dollar pitcher.

In the 80 million league they are doing quite well in season 3 (2nd best record).

On the other hand, all you have to have is 20 players from your set on your team.

If it was me, I would bite the bullet and have a 25-27 man roster. I'd have two .50 scrubs to meet the 20 man requirement and load up on FA's.

The good news for set ten, i think, is that they have some cool stadiums. I really like royals '80. Also, Yount and Brett will be affordable.

There will be a boat load of unused players. I'm set 1 and there is no way I can use all the pitching they have. I know set 3 can't use all the hiters they have.

In fact, you have more than a few players I'd love to have; bench guys (cardenal), relievers and cheap bangers (82 mil).
Suprisingly, there are no homerun hitters from set 1.
Once we get the league up and I can tweak my line up, let's trade.

So , thinks aren't as grim as they appear.

I was checking out the set ten team in season 3 of the 80 million league.
(BoDean is the manger).

Aside from their horrific starting pitching, that team is tough. Their record is 31-29

BoDean's coaxed 15 wins from his bullpen (the old codger).

Fryman and Bedrosian are rockin'.

Carter, Yount, Brett and Carew are all playing well.

The Candy man is on pace to lose 30 games. God that guy sucks. I hated him when I was a kid; so I'm pleased.

I played set 10 in season 2...

It was tough for sure, but I made some deals and went 81-81, about the best I'd hoped for, because as with Marge's point, I did chalk up the set as one where I would not likely make the playoffs, so do the best I can.

That said, I had the same feeling entering season 1, where set 9 surprised me as well... with the championship

I wouldnt tinker with set 10... though no 10M+ pitchers, they do have bomber potential, with the Milwaukee Brewers and the ability to play in Atlanta's stadium... I traded for Mantle, and he was awesome on the bomber squad I'd assembled... he hit .311, 53 HR's, 159 Runs, 153 RBI's but Brett was even better, with an awesome .410 average, 56 HR's, 143 runs and 166 RBI's.

My point... the set forces either a bomber squad or a very uphill battle to try to use a "more typical" team... especially with an extra 20M to spend and the ability to have 7-8 non-set players, assuming 20 from set has a few of the .50M scrubs as per fluffy's idea. Brett, Carter, Yount, Murphy, Thomas... HR's a plenty.

And Marge, don't worry, you won't be too far alone with the set, as I'm right behind you (I start with set 9 and get set 10 for season 2)

Set 11

Postby JUMBOSHRIMPS » Sun Nov 19, 2006 9:24 pm

Is it my imagination or is set 11 pretty horrible too. It's strength is in the bullpen. I looked around and the OF selection is horrible!! There's one one stud SP in Clemens; a few decent mid-tier guys are out there, but this set stinks. The ballparks favor hitters. I'm going to sit on a ton of maoney and grab some FA.

If you've had this set let me know your thoughts.
