Oil burnt, and I'm all set. This one should be a lot more fun than the last one -- from my perspective.

From the "Give the Groundskeepers a Bonus" Department...

AT's Montreal Underdogs came to visit my Excels v2 last night in Royals Stadium, and whatever the groundskeepers did to the field, AT's team did NOT like it... they committed 12 errors in the series (is that some kind of record?). Sorry, AT, don't mean to gloat... just a surprising # of errors

One helpful tidbit of advice, however, that comes out of this... it'd be good to get a 2B-rated bench player... Max Bishop has no injury protection and when he was hurt in game one of the series, HAL initially used Ray Knight at 2B, then in the next game put Rusty Kuntz at 2B

Prediction... though just 6 games into the season, the current leader of the western division will DEFINITELY win the division

The Dope Show were purchased by Groupo Modelo and moved to beautiful Field of Corona. The Model(o) A's retain the second base tandem of Fox and Maz, but the rest of the offense is new.

Looking after returning ace Denny McLain--3-0, thank you very much--is another Dope Show alum, Preacher Roe. Although, Denny may have to keep an eye on ol' Preacher. He's been known to pop greenies.

I recently collected data on over 5,000 teams, much like what treyomo has done. If I isolate the Dope Show lineup (minus Fox and Maz) from Astrodome teams, I see the following runs created per 700 PAs:
Joe Dimaggio 157 RC (2734 PA)
Yogi Berra 108 RC (696 PA)
Jackie Robinson 98 RC (6401 PA)
Bill Terry 96 RC (6421 PA)
Nemo Leibold 84 RC (4221 PA)
Lloyd Waner 84 RC (11087 PA--the most used player in Astrodome)
Alan Trammell 79 RC (2539 PA--what a dog, never again in Astrodome!)

The total average runs created per 700 plate appearances is 706.

Let's compare that to the A's lineup (minus Fox and Maz):
Paul Waner 120 (3641)
Bob Meusel 110 (5502)
Chief Meyers 100 (6574)
Elmer Flick 98 (9334)
Joe Judge 98 (3502)
Dave Bancroft 96 (6726)
Harry Steinfeldt 88 (4499)

The total average runs created per 700 plate appearances is 712. Defensively, I go up at C, 3B, LF, and RF. I lose range in CF and I go down at SS, 1e14 to 2e22. Question, who is worth more, a 2e22 SS who creates 96 runs a season or a 1e14 who creates 79?

I won't predict my record, but I do think that I score more runs and allow fewer than last season. The Dope show scored 704 runs and allowed 648, 580 earned. I think the A's do better.

An eerie, deafening silence from the current champion Excelerator's thus far.

I thought to myself early in the season... "I'll give all the teams a chance to get some games under their belt before any commentary or analysis, maybe after about 10 wins or so".

Well, what I hadn't counted on was my team who was 4-2 at the time, taking another 8 nights (and 24 games) to win 6 more :P :(

Actually, my own silence was (and will be from time to time) due to a bunch of life issues (I hate those!)... buying and selling a house, sorting thru my father's estate, other death in the family, busy busy time at work, a wife who expects me to be conversational, fun & engaging (if that's the case, what did she marry me for?). Life rolls on :)

Back to Strat-o...

Having crashed thru that 10-win glass ceiling, I'm ready to get this message board back into the active status, so look for some random postings over the next few days. Thanks to adrian for his post and analysis, and sorry I haven't even yet responded to that... others with any time on their hands can jump in as well . See ya' back here soon.

I'll stick to my previous analysis. Waner and Meusel are significantly underperforming and "Babe" Meyers is significantly overperforming. I'm still on pace to score 702 runs and, even better, only give up 610.

Bancroft should have been a one. According to Bill James he was the premier defensive shortstop of his era. But since he is a 2, I'd take the 1 and the fewer runs created.

I think the A's may have some problems beyond the runs created expectations. 60 games against lefty friendly teams doesn't augur well e.g. last night's series at home against me. Especially with your top three pitchers all having problems against lefties on the road.

Interesting that 4 teams currently have their starting catchers injured.
