Horace Mann Invitational V

Back in the 1970's - long before we all wasted time on the internet - we were young in wasted time in person. In the Bronx, a few nerdly little boys spent their time rolling dice and playing Strat-O-Matic instead drinking, smoking, using drugs, or (successfully) chasing girls like some of their classmates. Similar choices were being made by other Strat-O-Matic players throughout the country.
Years went by, and [i:e1ac4224c6]Al Gore[/i:e1ac4224c6] then invented the internet.
After we got over the fascination with online porn, Strat-O-Matic players evolved into a new virtual community.
In Strat 2001, HM alumnus Woods’ wild card Yinkees won the inaugural

In Strat 2002, Bob711 took the title away from HM alumni and won Horace Mann Invitational II. Equally shocking in this league was the fact that manager Charlie M came within 1-run of giving the title to true-life Horace Mann rival Fieldston, and HMI 1 defending champ Woods lost 100 games in HMI-2. Like Joe Namath and the Jets winning Super Bowl III, this stunning turn of events launched HMI into an evenly balanced annual competition.
In Strat 2003, Glenn F (aka The Biomechanical Man) returned the HMI title to a HM alumni. It is worth noting that although the HM alumni could be proud to win the title back, there is some shame in that they couldn’t even spell “Invitational” correctly in naming the league this year.
In Strat 2005 (remember, TSN started naming the games at this point based upon the year of the online release instead of the year of the statistics), bigmahon stunned the world by beating HM alum wockenfuss in HMI 4 finals and taking the title overseas to the U.K.
