Infield in

I have a question about the [b:825a1a88c3]infield in[/b:825a1a88c3] selection in the manager strategy section. I'm having a hard time understanding the logic of this. What determines what to choose here? Is it your defense? I have a very good defensive team up the middle but don't know if I shoud go with Infield in early or later in the game. I just simply don't know on what aspect of my team should I base my decision. Thanks for your help!
