Relief pitchers rest will be governed by the "Relief Pitcher's Rest Chart". In addition, a pitcher used in relief in his last outing should have at least 1 day of rest before starting. If he does not have this day of rest then consider him fatigued for that entire start. The first rule you referenced is the one used here. However, there have been cases when a reliever has been used for three straight days. This usually occurs when someone sets their closer setting on maximize. Generally, an R1 can pitch 140 innings in a season before he tires. Incidentally, I've seen someone use an R3 so much that he ended up with 300 innings at the end of the year. :shock:
