More Comments on my MM Team

I thought about it

Thanks for the feedback, Mark especially. I thoguht about your feedback and I can't quitw find the deal I'm happy with. At second, Soriano is a 4, but he has so much power and will hit righties (definitely dominant in my division) well at MM. I have Spivey (the other half of my platoon) set to defensive replacement for him. The only options at 2b are Roberts (overpriced) Giles (I gove up so much power) and Castillo (the most interesting of the lot, but I don't think he'll face too many lefties). I grade Rivera out as a significant + over Hermanson. I could try to improve defense by giving up Hidalgo ( who I have slated to move into the outfield when Thomas gets injutred, with Sanders going to DH), but I still can't pull the trigger, The pick up I'm closest to is Edmonds for Drew. Which would definately help the defense, but very few parks good for Lefty power in my league (a lot of Kauffman and Petco) and I lose OB and hits, plus Drew is stronger against Righties and Edmonds against llefties. The whole deal with Drew and Helton on my team is deterent against using righty killers against my team. I'll keep thinkin, but right now, I can't pull the trigger.

Also there are few decent 2 or 3 inning relievers left.

Hmm, I don't know. Way too many injury risk players, a 4 at 2nd, a 3 in CF, and when your SS goes down (which he will) a 3 at SS as well (providing HE isn't hurt as well). This team may begin well, but as injuries pile up and attrition sets in, I wouldn't be too optimistic about this team.

I agree with Jerlins, to put it in a certain perspective a 2B 4 has about 30% chance of allowing a hit through every time the 2B x comes up, which as we know is quite a lot, then on top of that when it gets downgraded for holding a runner and a righty batter at the plate then you are playing a 2B 5 which has 40% chance of letting the ball through. On top of that you have to factor the possibility of making an error, in Soriano's case it's about 13% so...every time a roll challenges his defense he has 43%-53% chance of letting it through or commiting an error. IMO opinion all those extra runners will hurt you badly in a park where righties can pick their noses with one hand and hit a homer with the other. Especially considering your pitching staff.

Just an opinion though, the cool thing about it is that there are many ways to win :D

Good luck

Injuries

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Mon Jun 05, 2006 1:17 pm

The one factor I did not notice when I drafted was injuries. I am concerned about this also, for sure. And I wll use this knowledge the next time I draft. We start our league today, so I will look and see if there are last minute moves to make. I just got Troy Glaus, who helps my defense one rating at 3b and I love offensively.

As for the second base 4 issue. I have a rating system where I count both defense and offense at each position, based on how often things come up. And Soriano's offense is enough to make up for his defense, especially at MM. Maybe I will turn out to be foolish, but we'll see!

More on Injuries

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:28 am

I see now how powerful it was that I did not notice injuries as a factor on performance. I wondered how it was that certain players (Drew, Sanders) seemed to have a value that was very cheap for their talent, and now I understand why. It seemed to late in the process to do a total overview, so what I did was replace my outfield subs, who got injured alot also( a 3 point and a 6 point), with a pair who don't(a one point and a two point). I was able to get a strong outfield defensive replacement at the same time. (a 2e0). I gave up a little offense. But I have offense to spare. I just have to realize that with my team, i will probably have a player injured much of the time and sometimes 2. My team may be good enough to weather that.

My overall evaluation of my team. - I have a pitching staff that is a little above average on the road, and excellent at home, almost everyone tailored to my park, with a strong bullpen. My offense is fantastic at home, all 7 of my righties have great BPHR and power both ways. and my lefties have incredible on base. My offense is still good on the road, just not as good. I'm hurt a little bit by the fact that there are few other stadiums that honor right handed power.
My defense is below average, a 4 platooned at 2b and a 3 in center, with defensive replacements, it becomes passable. I have a weakness against rght-handed specialists, I only have 2 lefties, although they both punish righties. One of the teams in my division picked up Clay Helmsley at last moment, and I bet that was for me! And I have the injury factor, I have 3 key offensive players with 5 point injuries, plus one platton guy. My shortstop is a 3 point, and my cathcer a two. I got a strong outfield sub to try to compensate, but this will still have an impaxt.
What wll be the result? We'll see! I played my first series last night and swept it. I hit 9 HR's, Brandon Webb pitched a shut out, and JD Drew has the highest slugging percentage in the league. Hopefully a sign of things to come!
