Petco offensive assault?

Petco offensive assault?

Postby mlayers » Sat Nov 25, 2006 11:41 pm

I would love your analysis on this team. I dont have alot of Petco experience, but I think I might have a winner here. I have speed, OBP, Def, natural power and lots of walks. I can't believe i got just about everyone I drafted. My main question is about my pitching staff. How do you guys think it will fare? I have another Petco, a Fenway and a Wrigley in my div, heavy RH pitching in div.

Looks like it could be a winner. I'm not a big fan of Glaus here, poor D, walks the major factor on OBP. I'd use my 5th spot in the rotation as a SP/RP just for mop up duty. Good Luck!!

There is a Petco post just below mine. People are saying his team could win 100 games. How does his team compare to mine in your opinion? From my viewpoint, I humbly think I have even a better squad then he does. I was VERY lucky with the draft. Feel free to disagree, I am just really encouraged by this team and can't wait for the league to start.

Lineup vs Lefties
Counsell 2b
Giles rf
pujols 1b
Ortiz dh
Glaus 3b
Rollins ss
Olivo c
Figgins lf
Taveras cf

Lineup vs Righties (tons of rhp in div)
Figgins lf
Giles rf
Pujols 1b
Ortiz dh
Glaus 3b
Mauer c
Taveras cf
Counsell 2b
Rollins ss

Speed, def, power and OBP. I will destroy righties. Unsure about my starters, will probably drop a rp also.

I don't know. Personally I don't think much of the team. If you were in my division I'd hardly look twice at your team, but I am very often wrong so this might be a good sign for you.

IMO, and from my limited experience, Counsell, Rollins, Taveras, and to some extent Figgins and Glaus will have some fairly pedestrian seasons in Pitcher's parks. Essentialy that leaves you with Pujols, Ortiz, Giles and Mauer.

I'll take my chances throwing a lefty your way.

You do have speed but if they don't get on base... I'm not a Figgy in the Leadoff type, I've done it ouf of necessity but in your case I would almost rather lead with Mauer and Flip Figgy to 6th.

Either way, good luck in the season, always nice to go into it with a punch :D

My team is the one listed below and jerlins said he thought it would win 100 gaels. As he is in the league with me, I'm not sure that his comments might have been a little toungue in cheek. I also am not a good judge. I can only judge my teams when I know every little thing I plan, and even then I don't make the playoffs half the time. I'm not sure about Glaus here either, as he is a very good value in hitting parks IMO, but Petco isn't really for him. I have used Glaus a lot, but would consider someone else in this situation. I like Figgins. I would consider moving Figgins to 3B and getting a decent LF and/or upgrade CF with at least a decent cheap platoon vs lhp's. I think even Nook Logan would work better than playing Taverez vs lhp's. I think you could improve yourself both offensively and defensively depending on what you do if you move Figgins. Also, Radke can't pitch outside of the Petco, Fenway, Minutemaid type environments. he gets consistently rocked.

DJ, trust me when I said I love your team, so much so it has inspired me to build one to your model:

I'd be very surprised if your team doesnt win 100 plus, and like I said, 110 plus with some good luck. And if your team fails, well, mine will as well. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Consider yourself flattered. Your model could be the new standard by which Petco teams are formed. So with all three of us beginning Monday, maybe we can keep bumping up this thread.

My thanks again for your inspiration!!!! And if we all fail, well, hopefully this thread will be pushed to page 2 before anyone sees it again.

Thanks for analysis guys, i really apprecite it. We shall see how it all works out. Radke has been awesome for me on alot of teams, especially since most of the parks in the league favor right handed hitting. I think this team might surprise you. It will be fun to compare our seasons. Good luck guys.

Yep, I'm going to be curious and plan on keeping an eye on your team. I have no choice but to keep an eye out for DJ's, as I will be looking at his 3 game sweeps constantly in our league. Not to mention the fact that he stole my #1 pick with Ortiz which just isn't very nice of him.

Following these three Petco teams is fun. Hope you don't mind my fixing the three teams here, makes easier the following from the stands.

And since there can be no Petco chat without the great post by Lucky, here's the thread:

Once again, thanks Luckyma/Marcus Wilby for the great post :D
