In search of 400 HR's-392 @ thru game 144

Great Pace DJ

Postby PAULMINICUCCI » Sun Dec 03, 2006 3:46 pm

DJ has set an incredible pace. He made all the right moves. My team (posted previous) is on pace for 389, that is currently 244 in 102 games or 2.39/game a smidge ahead of RGimbel but nowhere close to DJ. It is very tough to make a run without the right parks in your league. That is the one variable that can derail the attempt. I have one MM and Dodger stadium, three Petcos and a bunch of other low HR parks. One very good player has a team in frist place hitting .257 and 57 HRs after 102 games at Petco. The league avaerage is .258.

I am in a play-off series in another league against a great team (104 wins) that hit 377 HRs. More impressively they had nearly 1100 RBIs at US Cellular.

The other thing I have learned is that Coors is not a great place to try and do this and win, because, you have to scrimp on pitching and while my team is great against HRs (I have more than twice the opponents) but I am getting killed at home by high average teams which makes sense in regard to the number of singles they give up on the <.

In fact my team is very bad (20-34) at home and pretty good on the road (29-19), this from a team built for HRs playing in a pitcher's league.

I am making another run with a new team, this time at US Cellular.

I have;

Fasano
Ortiz
Delgado
Kent
A-Rod
A-Ram
Dunn
Wells
Francouer

I would like to change out Wells but Granderson is the only move I can afford. But I do have a much better ballpark array going this time around with another US Cellular, 2 MM and and Great Am ball park in the league.

Any kind of experimental team can be derailed in a few ways, from a bad draft to a bad ballpark mix. HR's are by no means a guarranty of success. I could finish with about 450 HR's and not make the playoffs. I am in the mix, but so are three or four other teams. I read a post by Jerlins concerning slugging teams, where he says you can be more successful with a little more balance, and I tend to agree. I won 100+ with Glavine, Lackey, Byrd, etc with Jones closing on a team that slugged but also had nice OBP and defense. It's still fun to bash however, as Real Men only count Bombs and Chicks do dig the Longball.

[quote:cc1ec96702="Cummings2"]Wow, It looks like Floyd has gone nuts the past few games for you DJ, I didn't remember having so many Dingers

Hats off to rgimbel for his team, I think he is just a tad off pace for 400 but you can't argue with being 30 games over .500 8)

-RG was in my very first strat league, he was super cool helping me get my feet wet, I always like seeing him do well, classy guy and he deserves all the wins. Way ta go RG!!![/quote:cc1ec96702]

sometimes between all the hal crap, blowing playoff series, blowing leads to lose the division You forget that the most enjoyable part of the game is the great people playing it. thanks again for the kind words

Frank Thomas is right off the injured list and licking his chops seeing three LH's slated to start. He has an amazing 17 HR's in only 85 AB's vs lhp's.

Hard to believe no one has hit 400 HR's, at least I haven't seen anything posted about a team reaching 400 HR's. Guys picking bashing teams is common enough, and the only "must have" IMO is Arod. A Jones and Floyd are nice, but I think you could make a run at it with Edmonds, Griffey and/or Granderson as substitutes. Ditto Kent and Utley. Seems like someone else should have made it. It's not like you need unreasonable drafting success or a ridiculously star studded team to make it. Also, although my division is hitting friendly with two Safeco's and a Minutemaid, I can't really dominante in all places power-wise. There is also a Petco, a PNC and a Shea, so the league is not loaded with hitting parks. Seems like someone else should have been there, but I've never even seen anyone with 390 HR's.
