Newbie advice thread

I'll try socal, thank you. I am learning...I feel I am much better at the game than with my first team. Just don't always get the lucky rolls I guess.

Some of the better pros will hopefully chime in on this, I am sure they'll answer this question much better.
The reason why I don't like to play 4s in the C-OFs is because everytime their defense is challenged (around 55-60 times in a season) they have 55% chance of letting the ball drop for a single or for an extra base hit. The CF's D gets challenged around 80-85 times according to my calculations, which for all I know might be a bit off. Some rough numbers would indicate a 4 in a C-OF position will cost you around 30 to 40 hits through a season, in addition to those times he makes an error.
Hopefully a vet will chime in on this and what I said makes sense and is of help.

Ack! Sorry I read advice #12 wrong. I thought it said "No more than 4 in the OF" meaning you should have no more than 4 outfielders on the roster.

Hard Drive Crash

Hey everyone,
My hard drive quit on me last week and I lost everything on it. (Luckily all my business files are regularly backed up - not so fortunate on my personal stuff) Still looking into having someone do some recovery on it but not sure I want to spend that much money.
There is only one thing that I am desperately missing -
When I was a newbie, someone sent me an excel file that helps quantify batters and pitchers cards in each stadium. It's far from perfect, as the game is still up to luck, but it does help especially when trying to figure out that last one or two players to squeeze into your cap space.
If anyone has it, or knows who created it, I'd love to get in touch with them and get another copy.

I think this is a typo and should be "no more than ONE 4 in the OF"

I have never played strat-o-matic, found this game because a friend of mine talks about it all the time.
I don't know if I am allowed to post here, hope it's ok.
If possible could someone elaborate on #1 OBP before SLG and #2 WHIP before ERA? Also, on #6 OBP before speed leading off.
How does strat-o-matic simulate (if it does) patient hitters that take more pitches than other hitters (usually the Lead off types).
After I am done reading through this forum, can I just get a team or do I have to sign up for a league first?
