by no steal rating do you mean like:

[quote:85720b9915]stealing-(E) -/- (---) [/quote:85720b9915]

If that player gets on there is no hold.

If by no steal rating you mean like:

[quote:85720b9915]stealing-(D) 2-5/8-12 (13-2) [/quote:85720b9915]

There could be a hold. I believe it depends on the pitcher's HLD and the catcher's arm in relation to the safe stealing with lead rating, that is just my opinion, only based on observing not on any literature.

Maybe Dean will drop by here, he is the Zen master of all of this.

I do feel confident that the guy who is -/- (---) won't get held on :) Other than that, I really couldn't say. When playing against the computer, if you don't set up the opponent's managerial strategy, the default tendency seems to be to hold damn near everyone on. However, since the computer game lets you get pretty specific about when you want to hold (you can specify the minimum chance of getting a lead and of stealing the base with a lead that you want to hold, as well as whether you want to always hold *s), it would be simple to set up each team's manager so that it holds only when necessary. I don't know if TSN has done this.

it really matters when drafting a team if only a's and b's get held on that is much different than if c's and d's get held on. wish I knew the answer

I thought only guys with * got held on. If not, what is the purpose of the asterisk?

A guy with an * gets his lead automatically if he is not held by the opp.

But you can hold anyone and everyone. I've seen HAL HLD David Ortiz when playing the comp game. All's game I guess
