I am about 20 games into a new season and my pitching staff is getting pummeled. Byrd, Walker and Lidge especially. Byrd, Carrera, Walker, Lidge, Wickman and Downs gave up 17 earned runs, 5 home runs, in the Metrodome.

I am in the Metrodome and there is an RFK stadium, MM Park and US Cellular. The league is generally comprised of hitter’s parks, but the Metrodome should be relatively neutral, right?

I am open to suggestions. This is my fifth team. 3 ongoing and 2 that are done. So far only one of my teams has a winning record.

Any thoughts other than changing fantasy sports.

Hey sponedal, what's up?

1. It's early
2. Byrd is hard to figure out. I like his card, and he usually performs well for me. (Won 21 games @ US Cell). But I've also seen him get shelled.
3. What role does Downs play on this team? You've got 4 *SP's already.
Maybe turn Byrd and Downs into a good LH or maybe a reverse RH?

4. Wickman is only a pitchers park RP and it also helps if there are other pitchers parks in your own division.

5. Carrara and Hernandez usually pitch well for me and are fine for you.
6. Walker is an expensive LH'ed specialist. Are there other hard LH's, sub $1 million left?
7. Lidge will even out for you. Is he set to setup/close both ways? He should be...

Hitting:
1. While Delgado is mashing, he SHOULD only be a DH. He's terrible with the leather.

The rest looks solid... :lol:


FWIW- Sit tight right now. It's early. These are just ramblings that should be read with a grain of salt. It's too early to start dismantling your team.

I too have had good success with Byrd in another Metrodome team with 2 MM fields in the division. I think he is 12 and 5.

I have had pretty good success using a LHP like Downs or Fossum for spot starts inthe right parks.

I think I will make sure that Wickman is st for mop up only unless he is in a pitcher's park.

When you say hard H, do you mean someone with a 3 or 4L versus Walker's E?

Someone like a Myers/Mulholland/Flores or Villone.

You want this guy to come in and get out the good lefty bat. Then get the heck out.

This is what I do, before the season starts.
1. Check out how many LHSP's you will face IN your division.
2. Check out how many lefty bats are on each team.
3/4 Do the same for right SP's and bats.

I've looked at the other teams in your division. Your SP is too balanced to the right side. You would benefit greatly from a reverse RH, like Towers or Harang. That would eliminate your need for Downs.

Thanks for lending your expertise. I picked up Mulholland for Walker. I set him up at avoid RHB, quick hook and max 1 to 2 innings. Is that get him in,get the out and then get him out?

My league is dominated by hitter's parks so I am going to replace Wickman as well.

Now, as far as a reverse RHP, what's the advantage to that? why would that be better than a LHP? Would this pitcher be in the rotation or used in spot starts?

BTW, I think the Giants broke the record for paying what will be a sub-500 pitcher in the NL.

What is your take on the Zito signing?

Well...RH's generally are gonna be tougher vs. righty bats. So these guys I mentioned will hold their own vs. righty bats.

The reverse part with them will also help hold their own against lefty bats as well.

I'd replace Wickman with D. Sanchez. He's brutal on righties and can be effective vs. lefties given the right situation.

My take on Zito? I wish he was going to pitch @ Shea next season. Lots of ?'s with the Met rotation. Zito could surprise you. Remember, the NL lineup doesn't have a DH so, 1 less bat to worry about.

usually al pitchers do very well in the nl and nl pitchers struggle big time in the american league look for zito to have a big year

I think if Zito's walks don't go down he may have a hard time. The SFG defense doesn't have the range that the OA had last year. If Zito gives up a lot of free passes, more of those guys may come around then did last year.

BTW, if I go after Harang or Towers would I jettison Bird or Downs and put the newie in the rotation
