As you can see above, Carpenter is getting killed. My home park is Minute Maid. I think my defense is O.K. 3e7 at 1b and 3(-1)e8 in left field, all other starters are a 2.

Studying his card, I don't see anything wrong with it. Am I missing something? Against right hand hitters there are no HR'S on his card yet he has given up 8 in 21 innings. Anyone have any theories or is this just a result of unlucky rolls that should even out.

Carp is usually golden in MM so I wouldn't rush into anything.

Take a look at how many lefties you're facing. Is he getting clobbered at home or away (obviously both right now).

Remember it 50-50 for the roll on hitter vs pitcher so I'm guessing you're getting some unlucky rolls for the HR's.

Hang in there, it will change.

Thank's Stoney for all your help. As a rookie, I really appreciate it. He is getting clobbered home and away by rightys and leftys.
On opening day Carpenter gave up 7 runs (2 hr's) in Petco of all places, and it's been down hill from there. I have Roy Oswalt and he has been just as bad as Carpenter.
This is my first league and am getting killed...but I am learning, I think!!

Stoney is right, Carpenter should be money in MM. I would never cut him. He could have a bad year, but you won't do better value-wise in MM IMO.

It is now 57 games into the season. Carpenter is now 5 wins 9 losses,
6.60 ERA, 1.46 WHIP. He has pitched 90 innings, 99 hits, 66 earned runs, and 19 HR'S. At home (MM); 6.75 ERA, and 1.39 WHIP. Away 6.50 ERA, and 1.50 WHIP.

The thought of dumping him has crossed my mind, but I just can't do it yet. (I am hoping he will snap out of it). My team is now 3 games under .500 and he is a big part of that. How long should I stick with him? The free agent market is really picked over.

I see the following problems:

1. Too much spent on relief corps
2. Over 25% of your hitting is spent on hitters from the left side, and whose value is also ballpark dependent on their strong side as well. Bad combination.
3. Another 10% of your hitting spent on a hitter (Francouer is much better vs LH's, of which you face little in your division.
4. Another starter (Sanchez)) who is weak vs both sides.
5. Another starter (Burrell) who is better vs LH (see #3)

Basically, you have close to 60% of your hitting rendered useless, either by your park, or your divisional opponents pitching staffs. You have no RH hitters that would scare anyone vs RH pitchers, and your LH hitters are hamstrung everywhere in your division except the PNC park. The lefthanders you DO face in your division are so balanced vs RHs that your team is even at more a disadvantage. There are also a few more RH slant parks in your league which isn't helping. Why anyone other than the 2 PNC's in the league would even have a LH hitter of any $ value is questionable.


Build a team fitting your park first, then match up vs your division, and finally, the rest of the league. Let your opponents do their team building on the defensive.

When I drafted this team, I got almost all the pitchers I requested, but on offense, I got very few. Now I have to go with what Hal gave me.

Maybe I spent too many early picks on pitchers. After reading your last post, I agree with you. Thank's for your help.
