What gives Hal?

What gives Hal?

Postby Adidaspete » Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:12 am

While I'm not going to gripe too much about the exciting finish here, I'm left to wonder why HAL didn't pinch hit for Weintraub (5R) with Barry Bonnell (4L) aginst the LHP in the 9th. I have Weintraub set to avoid LHP, Bonnell is my PH vs. LHP. It was obviously a pivotal moment, LeFlore comes in, swipes two bags and is sac'ed home to tie the game, only to have HAL throw Weintraub in against a lefty and have him get goose egged? Is it because I have Weintraub as a DH? Is there anything I could change in the setup to actually have my PH utilized?
Thanks

I would say in this situation that HAL is very unlikely to call for a pinch hitter for the following reasons:

1) There were 2 outs with the bases empty
2) Your DH was the batter
3) He was 2nd in the batting order for your team
4) There wasn't a pitching change specifically for him

Looking at that situation, I would say 99% of the time, the listed player hits away. I think that situation outweighs the lefty/righty match up scenario you mentioned and the fact it was tied in the bottom of the 9th.

If you want Weintraub pinch hit for more, I would bat him lower in the order.
