Ball Park Singles

Another new guy question here.
I like to play in SBC and would obviously like to take advantage of its effects. But if virtually everyone has 5 chances of a BPS (all but 47 of the 664 players on the 2005 ratings disk if I am reading it correctly), there is no advantage in having one player over another (talking only about BPS's for now).
Is it just a matter, in SBC's case, of loading up on RHH's to get the park effect.

Also, this from the readme file of the ratings disk:

[i:8266036dce]an "*" indicates the player has no ballpark single chances[/i:8266036dce]

But players like Thome, Choi and Utley have the * in the BP v. LHP column and yet have 5 chances (2005 once again).

Thanks for any clarification.

First, clarifications: none among thome, choi, and Utley have BP single chances vs LHP, contrary to what you say. They have BP singles vs rhp only.

Second, strategy: if you go with SBC, which has 7-16 ratings for singles, then, like you mentioned, you should avoid offensive players without BP singles, consider having pitchers without BP singles (they are more frequent than on the offensive side) and consider having a ballclub heavy of right-handed pitchers and players (I would say at least 5 right-handed hitters, and probably only right-handed pitchers).

Finally, when you choose to go with a stadium that has a high rating for singles AND a low rating for homeruns, you should also make sure that you go with a strong middle defense, given that you will increase the probability of being in a double-play situation. In the same logic, you should avoid pitchers that have very bad hold ratings.

Thanks for the good advice Marcus.
I'm still confused on Thome et al. and the BPS's vs LHP
This is from Thomes 2005 card:

>3- SINGLE(cf) (from the second column vs. LHP)
>10- fly(lf)B? (from the third column vs. LHP)

Aren't those ball park single chances?

I think something that is coming into play here Palmtana is the fact that the strat ratings for the 05 season are played here in TSN under the 2006 game.

The Thome card quoted is for the 05 game but the 05 game played with the set of 2004, I am sure if you go through he ratings disk for the 2004 season you won't find an *in the BPSI vs LHP for Thome.

I hope this makes sense.
