first time ever....what do you think of team?

I've never posted one of these seeking advice posts before. This ATG thing, however, has me a little perplexed. Any input appreciated.

Hey Vince,

Before I bought 5-pak, I asked for advice and there were a couple of good posts. They are on Page 5 of this forum. I am going to try to quote one of them here, if it doesn't work, go to page 5 and look for my post and look at the responses. It helped me alot. Especially the Diamondope one.

Ok, it didn't work, but I will try to post it here so you can access it easier.

I'm not sure anyone is in a position to help with any degree of confidence. The game is new to all of us. But that caveat aside, some random observations.

I never thought Mayer was that great a value. Still don't. Palmer looks a little iffy. Not thrilled with the hold, given Kling behind the plate. [b:3f48276321]The pitching is too weak for a 100 M league.[/b:3f48276321] If it were me I'd probably rework my entire starting 4. Get one ace to pitch twice in the first round of the playoffs. You have a solid core of 4 great hitters, Collins and your OF. Pendleton usually sucks for me. Try Rocky Bridges as a cheap 3rd baseman. Great name if nothing else. There are now some better catcher choices available than Kling now.

York is overpriced. He's slow. Better, cheaper choices are available. Shirley and Garman should be OK if HAL follows the manager settings. Baldshun looks like a good value.

I'd look for a good two hitter assuming Collins leads off and 3-5 are Henderson, Snider, Simmons.

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for your input. Bridges is not available and I don't see much at 3b. Would you suggest dumping York for someone like Chance at 1b? Speed and OB for the 2 hole? Other available guys are Hodges, Murray and Hernandez.

Catcher choices some available names are Chief Myers, Sanguillen or Earl Battey.

As for the SP I don't know ...there are a lot of big $$ sp there, and some appear to have good cards...but then I thought the guys I picked (especially Hughson & Myers were decent, and I thought Palmer looked like a decent 4 hole.

I appreciate your input and will go back to work....Did someone post something about their head exploding :D

Mayer should do ok, but I wouldn't count him as the ace. What other parks in your division? I would dump Hughson and look for Coveleski type.

Made some changes. Dropped YOrk for Chance, and Kling for Battey. Still can't find a better 3b. Freed up about 1.5K. Big SP available include:
Cicotte, Eddie
Adams, Babe
Boston #21
Young, Cy
Reulbach, Ed
Johnson, Walter
Garcia, Mike
Williams, Lefty
Russo, Marius
Ojeda, Bob
Lanier, Max
Walters, Bucky
Dinneen, Bill
Lemon, Bob
Pierce, Billy
Kremer, Ray
Pollet, Howie
Mullin, George
Zachary, Tom
Willis, Vic
Leifield, Lefty
Willett, Ed
Brecheen, Harry
Ruffing, Red

Other parks in division are Fenway 86, Wrigley 70, and Fulton 82. Covaleski is not available. Not sure of definition of his type. :? Thanks for the feedback.

Cicotte was my Horse in ATG II He gives you a lot of innings with a great ERA With your line-up behind him I think he could win close to 25 But I never played in Shea

Vince you should try to pick up a left hand starter. Your park favors left hand hitters and you have all righty starters. Lineup looks pretty good. Outfield is week in arm strenght but without seeing the rest of the league I don't know if that is a problem. Tim
