Is it my imagination or are the Cardinals the embodiment of the all injury team. How many seasons lately have they made the playoffs after a great regular season only to have several key players out?
A few seasons back it was Rolen. This year it is Rolen again. Edmonds played injured one year. Walker was injured last year and has neck problems this year. Sanders was injured earlier in this series with Houston and is playing through it. Yesterday their backup third baseman gets injured and misses tonight's game. Carpenter was missing last year with an injury.
And it is not just the playoffs. Throughout the season last few years it seems that you could not talk about the Cardinals without discussing who was currently injured.
I say that for the next year everyone who puts together all high injury risk teams in strat name their teams Cardinals in honor of this organization that is not afraid to hang their hopes on guys who repeatedly visit the DL, whether because they are fragile or just unlucky. :D
