Need advice

I was doing pretty well, or so I thought. I lead my division, so it seemed like things couldn't be all bad. But I've won one game the last three nights, and my team is now below .500. I've lost several games because my closer/relief seems to blow the game for me. Gossage has 17 saves, with 8 BS. Willie Hernandez was removed from the closer role because he is only effective vs. Lefties. But we lost a 13 inning game he just pitched, though that had to do with the computer leaving him in for six innings (!). So . . . anyone got any ideas?

It seems like my team is alright . . . good fielding, maybe a little weak in the hitting department. I've gotten some good reveals through injury, and I've dropped the bad ones. So what do you all think? Change closers? I can give you info on my setup man etc. if needed. Thanks!

I would suggest setting Niedenfeur to close vs RHB and Hernandez against LHB and leave the set up setting blank thereby leaving Pena and Gossage to eat up the set up innings.

Then again.....what do I know?

Patience is your best friend

The main risk with Rich Gossage is the awful year with the Cubs-based on the numbers, you probably don't have that year. Looking at your splits, righties are hitting Goose harder than lefties. Since the Goose is better against righties in almost all years, I'd say you are just having some bad luck/rolls against you right now-that will even out over the season. All teams go through slumps-don't overreact to a bad 10 game stretch. You have a lot invested in your bullpen-I'd be tempted to cash in Pena and Foster to see about getting a stronger bat in LF/DH as George Foster is struggling. You have one of Niedenfuer's good years-I'd make him the set up against righties, use Guilermo Hernandez as set up against lefites and keep Gossage as the closer. He'll deliver.

I agree, you do need to be patient. Just not at this time. Your offense is too soft to win in this park. You can averaga 5+ runs a game in this park. You going to have trouble doing that with this line up. I would drop Pena and upgrade at 1B or RF.
