BC, right now I have a three guys that I would take in that spot. If these guys are not there by the time I pick, I could have some interest in moving it. Obviously, I realize you also have someone in mind there or else you wouldn't be interested in that pick. So, if my guys are gone and there's someone you still want by the time I pick, we could revisit this then. But right now, I'd like to wait and see if my guys will last until that pick.

"Howe" can you disagree that Steve Howe is not more valuable than a guy like Barfield? Howe is a 10 season player who is priced too low for his production.

No disrespect, but there will be plenty of RF to choose from. RP is a thin position currently unless you get a good .75 year from somebody.

Terry Puhl has outperformed most of the RF so far in 2 of the 3 years.

I didn't say I disagreed that Howe was more valuable than Barfield (even though that is disputable at this point in the decade).

I believe your statement was that you wouldn't trade Howe for ANY rightfielder not named Winfield. Well, I could count about 4 or 5 RF in the Eastern Division alone that I would trade Howe for in a heartbeat....and none of them are named Winfield 8)

But I suppose that's a matter of taste. Personally, if I owned Howe and someone offered Parker, Murphy, Dawson, Thomas or Evans to me for Howe? Man, Howe would be an ex-Fatboy in less time than it would take for Dingo to be officially eliminated from the playoffs (ok, that was low and unecessary....but I couldn't resist  ). But again, that's my personal preference....so let me retract my previous "disagreement." :) 8)

Albert,

dont make a trade for Howe ... becuase if he ends up on your team, and you hold your breath waiting for me to trade you Dawson or Thomas, you'll be turning blue-er than Dingo at playoff time !!

I agree that Howe is valuable; I have him on a couple other leagues, and he's awesome. But I'd definitely take the 5 you named, plus many others, over a relief pitcher.

I definitely see Sykes' point, though, in being able to find a serviceable RF a heck of a lot easier than finding reliable relievers.

On my 83 champion team, Salazar was my starting outfielder for over half my team's games. Some of my best moves, though, were getting Dawson in a preseason trade, and getting Sutter down the stretch.

With as much success as you and Sykes have had in the 80's I'm certain you're both right about this debate !! May it continue for another 7 seasons !

I think it's VERY debatable whether it's easier finding a good RF as oppopsed to finding good relief pitching. Unless I find some statistical evidence/data supporting that theory, I ain't buying it.

For every Salazar who has a great year in RF, I could name a Garber or a Niedenfuer who has a great year in the pen. Look at my pen this last season. 3/5ths of it were sub-million $ guys. And the other 2/5ths were under $2 mil. All pitched well and couple of them pitched excpetionally well. Heck, Gleaton's hasn't had a bad year for me yet this decade, and he's only 0.83 (now was that the kiss of death or what? :) )

And while I agree Howe is underpriced, he's not SO underpriced that I'd take him over a RF with good cards 4 out of 5 seasons.

I love Howe and like Barfield. Of course with Straw Barfield was dead weight on my team. It sound like I could have maybe held out for a better offer for Barf however. I didn't realize he had so many fans.
