MARCH MADNESS - ROUND 3 [BRACKETS POSTED]

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I set up bracket 1 WITHOUT selecting weighted waivers, so it looks like the two brackets are different. I PM'd Jablowmi on the question, and one way or another I guess this'll get straightened out. I suppose that it may make no difference as within each bracket particular rules will reign, but I'm happy to recreate the bracket if the decision is to go with weighted waivers all around.

Standard or Weighted?

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu Aug 17, 2006 8:38 am

Like I wrote, I didn't recall the waiver instructions (standard versus weighted) -

Logically, I'd sense more owners would be jazzed for the weighted waivers given the importance of not getting your Top 10 picks over your Bottom 10 picks.

If anything, you hear more moaning over the standard version when someone drafts a lump of coal, has over $11M in the bank but gets the bottom waiver ranking.

Otherwise, who ever is in Bracket 2 has "fair notice" of the playing field and I suspect they'll rank their card accordingly.

To me, it is no big deal but - on the surface - the weighted waivers appear more just.

I have no problem either way, I just don't want to incur the wrath of the disappointed. I'm fine with one bracket using weighted waivers and the other not. Right now, bracket 1's not weighted and bracket 2 is weighted. Right now, only the originating teams are signed up in the respective brackets. So things can be changed one way or another, or allowed to remain as is. Jablowmi should either make an executive decision, or I suppose we could involve ourselves in an unwieldy debate/voting process on this page. I'm open for suggestions, without preference either way. I await instructions...

Level Playing Field

I'd vote for the weighted waivers :D

I want just compensation for not getting Yount / Brett versus punked over Young / Collins.

One way or the other.

I prefer weighted waivers at all times. I even think that the standard method should be tossed out as an option for autoleagues as well.

Nevertheless, I vote for consistency. Both leagues need to be the same in the end. One way or the other.

If I recall correctly, I created Round 2 and made it weighted waivers.

I would vote for waivers, but I dont think my opinion should matter at this point.
It looks like we are planning for this round to start on Aug 28. Unfortunately I am going to be out of the country starting in the middle of that week. I won't be back until the 8th or 9th of September. I am not going to be available to start a league during that time. If we had started the last round together we could have started the 21st, and I would have been able to start a new league before I left.
I do not wish to hold up the tournament while I am gone. It looks like I need to step aside. I want to give Jablowmi time to decide who would take my spot.

WOW! So many problems, and with fewer managers too...tonight's games in the trailing bracket will decide who advances and who does not, so ordinarily we'd be ready to begin populating the next two brackets tomorrow. Let's try to get them rolling, but at this point we've got the weighted/nonweighted waivers question to resolve, along with the "who can substitute for PanzerAce" question...Maybe Jablowmi should get a team in each bracket?? Just kidding.
