NLD 14

Postby Wineman » Mon Aug 21, 2006 12:43 pm

Jet and I have reached the low point in our TSN SOM careers. Never before have we acheived 14 games below .500. A new low, but the way we're playing it is bound to go much lower.

Only bright spot is that we are leading the A Rod race for NLD15. :(

Jeep, next thing you'll be telling me is that Padilla usually leads his teams in ERA!

Jeep, are you saying that you would expect this team to have the worst record in the NLD?

[quote:a8b920bdff]Teixiera perform his card all year[/quote:a8b920bdff]

Maybe, but he hit 39 HRs in Safeco for AT last time! Only hit .250, but safeco is much more of a pitchers park than PNC. He's been the opposite for us, all singles, no pop.

what about the rest of our "power" hitters? Should they be expected to slack so much in PNC? Guiel, J Rod and Shelton are also way below where you would expect. I guess we're getting all of our luck with Wilson and his 7 HRs!

Smoltz led the last NLD in wins and posted a 3.65 ERA in Bank One. I guess we "missed" with him. :( I guess it's to be expected that RHB hit .306 against him. :(

Myers posted a 4.08 ERa for two teams last time around. Maybe he's a second half pitcher. :)

Maddux, I guess you can't expect much better than a 5.00 ERA, at least he's 5-5. Still, should we really expect hitters to bat .293 against him? Or for RHB to hit .359 v Madson and .300 against hermanson?

What's killed is our pitching performance at home. 5.47 ERA and that includes our LHP who *should* be decent at home right? It's not like we're playing in Coors.

I was only commenting on the players you all mentioned above in which you stated you expected better performances. Regardless of what they "should" do I was offering some insight on what I've seen in 30+ leagues.

I'm positive your team isn't as bad as their record, but you do have some guys that I have viewed as underperformers in the '06 set. But, in a competitive league as this we all do.

I have no explanation for your record, and I'm just not that good at evaluating teams anyway. You all are much better than me in that.

Regarding Padilla, he should league the league in "hit batsmen" and pissed off Managers.

Since SAFECO has a higher BP HR rating for LH hitters than PNC, I'd expect Teixeira to hit for a slightly better average but less power for you than he did for my squad ... then again your division has better hitter parks than the Central in NLD13, yet Teixeira is actually hitting much better at home ... then yet again you're seeing almost 33% LH Pitching so that is having a bad effect on Teixeira since vs. RH Pitching he hits for a lot less power.

I think he'll do better over the second half, but like JeepDriver says, and I concur, it is rare that he performs that well overall, so I'd be happy with his improved AVG even if it is at the cost of some SLG/HR.

I meant to bring this up a couple of days ago. I think it was Fri. night while I was watching the Mets game (I've got the MLB package) Keith Hernandez brought up the Strat-O-Matic fielding ratings. He mentioned it after Matt Holliday botched a fly ball. He mentioned someone's name (didn't know the name) that calls him every year after the season to get Keith's advice on fielding ratings. He went on to say that's why Holliday is a "4" range fielder.

Pretty cool. 8)

Jeep,

thanks for the feedback, it *is* appreciated. I guess I just figured we'd hit a few more HRs with the division we have and the hitters we have. :( Our pitching I have no explanation for however.

Padilla has pitched well in his spot starts, but there's really only one team he can pitch against. :(

Cool quote from Hernandez too. 8)

AT,

Yeah, it's 10 versus 14 so that might make a couple of HRs over half a season. Still he's been a disappointment in the power regard. I guess I expected more from a guy with 8 BP and 6.4 real v RHP. AND, we've faced a lot of the Weaver, Webb, Radke types too. :(

Oh well, if anyone is looking to make trades, reasonable of course, we're all ears. Got to do something and there isn't much in the FA pool.

Jet

p.s. forgot to mention I was on vacation from 8/4-8/17. I didn't spend my time keeping you guys entertained. ;) Back to the grind today. :(

<LOL>

Here we go again, our season in a nutshell. We take a 4-2 lead to the 9th with Carrasco on the mound. Those two "stud" hitters Niefi Perez and Gabe Gross get hits off of Carrasco, but then, wait, it gets better. Hermanson comes in and gives up a Wildpitch (1-12), then a passed ball (1-1) and a Sac fly to send it to extras.

*** TOP OF INNING 9 ***
SUBSTITUTE LF- So Taguchi
0 N.Perez 2 Single b-1
SUBSTITUTE PH- Gabe Gross
0 1 G.Gross 1 Single 1-2 b-1
SUBSTITUTE P - Dustin Hermanson
SUBSTITUTE PR- Tony Womack
0 12 B.Wilkerson 1 Wild Pitch 2-3 1-2
0 23 B.Wilkerson 5 Pop Out b-0
1 23 B.Abreu 1 Passed Ball 3-H 2-3
1 3 B.Abreu 5 Sac Fly 3-H b-0
2 D.Lee 5 Fly Out b-0

Oh, but we're not done yet! Take a peak at the 11th!

Our Gold Glove (1e3) 1b makes a boot, then that awesome Y Molina (against a HARD RHP) gets a single. Wow, What realism!!!!

*** TOP OF INNING 11 ***
0 O.Hudson 2 1 Base Error - 1B b-1
0 1 N.Perez 6 Sac Bunt 1-2 b-0
1 2 Y.Molina 2 Single 2-H b-1
SUBSTITUTE P - Chris Hammond
1 1 B.Wilkerson 6 Ground Out Double Play 1-o b-0

And so it goes night after night. Just when you think you might win that second game of a series c**p like this happens. :x

Course, we get two on in the bottom of the 11th, but Singleton (> .300 in the clutch) gets out against Farnsworth.

We have a good fielding team, and our fielding PCT is up there, but we give up unearned runs pretty much every single night. :?

Jet

p.s. did I mention we got 3 hit by Cliff Lee in the other loss while Smoltz is giving up 6 earned and 13 runners in 4.2 IP. More realism for you! RHB are hitting .315 against Smoltz while LHB are hitting *only* .284.

Another new low obtained as the losing continues. Now 15 games under having lost 11 of the last 12 series we played. Anybody who crows about beating us right now is a bully. It's like beating up your little sister. :(

I don't have a little sister, but I would have no objection to scheduling more games against your team. ;)
