[quote:0279b0e17a]So basically all hitters hit the same, it is all luck [/quote:0279b0e17a]
I should have qualified my "generic" card definition. Each pitcher in the league is rated for hitting in the top center of their pitching card.
The code looks like this usually: 1WR, or 1WL, or 5NR, or etc.
There are *7* generic pitchers' hitting cards: 1 through 7.
The first number tells you which generic pitchers' hitting card to use. 1 being the worst and 7 being the best.
A card with a 7 may hit like a .260 hitter or something like that and it gets worse from there....where a "1" card looks like Geno Petralli vs. lefties in his 7R year. :P
The middle letter tells you if he has HR power or not. "W" meaning no HR's can be hit off of a pitcher's card during the AB. A "N" means that if your pitcher rolls a HR off the pitcher's card and is successful then it will go over the fence.
The last letter shows whether he is RH or LH or S.
Every pitcher has his own hitting rating. Most AL pitchers are rated at a "1W" for obvious reasons. But there are a few pitchers that can actually hit the ball.
I believe Steve Carlton is a 3NL and Rick Sutcliffe in his hey day was a 7NL.
Hope that helps explain things some.
