SOM Online Update

The only thing wrong with that is the "probable" SP don't always pitch. That would lead to a lot of trickery of changing your scheduled SP just before 10PM so your opponent wouldn't have time to change his game 1 (or 2 or 3) lineup.

I know it is getting complicated but lock the starters in by 5pm and lock the lineups by 10pm in real baseball the lineups are adjusted if there is a change in sp

I totally agree with spicki17. Having separate lineups for game 1,2, and 3 separately will take care of the reverse line up issue. Then have the SP locked at 5pm and lineups locked at 10 pm. There must be a way that only elegible pitchers can be set up in the rotation for that day.

I definitely favor being able to set L/U's for each game. I also would think that would be just as easy to fix as Bernie's other solution would be.

We have discussed that AND the separate time issue before, and the different times for Pitcher's and Hitter's doesn't seem to be seriously considered.

Only problem with setting lineups for games 1,2 & 3 is that I can just see everyone announcing pitchers for the upgoming games only to make changes and go the opposite way 1 or 2 minutes before the lineups deadline @7 effectively rendering the use of that feature [i:88ff3ae17a]against[/i:88ff3ae17a] the manager who tried to setup the best LU per game.

I think being able to setup reverse LUs by HAL would avoid the "switch the announced pitcher" strategy.

Agree 100% with Cummings, by implementing reverse lineup functionality you take away a "gaming the system" edge that some mgrs get by switching SPs at the last minute - it simply won't be relevant anymore.

And Jeep, with all due respect (and Bernie can confirm) I think you're very mistaken in saying that putting in a separate lineup function for each game would be as easy as putting in lineups for reg RH/LH & reverse RH/LH.

I would bet big $$ that the former would require new coding (meaning new game logic) to TSN's game-running engine and could even lengthen the time it takes their servers to run the games, and would also require a pretty significant overhaul of the online interface in addition to the back-end code.

The latter would likely only require an addition of 2 new columns to TSN's DB of lineups and a few lines of code to check the new columns, and not much change to the current online interface, again the addition of 2 new columns. The logic on the back-end & the structure on the front end already exist, so for the programmers it's a copy/paste kind of effort, and for game-by-game functionality it wouldn't be copy/paste at all....

Ditto for those who say it'd be simple to have lineup changes at different times. I think it would be a lot more complicated than you think....

That's cool...I have no idea about "programming" not sure why I even brought that part up. :x

My mind has spun in different directions in this thread. After reading all the comments I now conclude the setting L/U's and Rotation at varying times is no good. In fact, I personally "set" all my teams in the morning, and don't go back (at night, for ex.) to look and see if I need to adjust. If we had "lock-in" times for both Rotation and L/U's then we all would have to go look at each team twice, or more. For those of us who manage daily, that is.

I'm still unsure about reverse L/U settings, but I'm not against it. I for one like to throw a hard pitcher and a reverse pitcher in the same series, but can adjust no problem if the reverse L/U thing is implemented.

The game is about adjustments. Not all necessarily against your opponent, but against upgrades made by Bernie, too. :)

great news about the increased control of injury substitutions...my barks have been heard!...this gives us more control of our own destiny, which is all I've ever asked for in life...for me, personally, this will mean the difference between hanging up my credit card and hanging around for a while for more fun and frustration...

the downside: 2004 Gary Sheffield and 2004 Jamie Burke will never get to play 3B again...

Don't know about the "lineups vs. reverse pitchers" issue...never something that really bothered me...I'll leave that to the vets...

the best part about this site is the hard work and attention of the staff, such as Bernieh...kudos, gentlemen...very rarely these days does anyone actually "listen", but these guys seem to be genuinely interested in "customer satisfaction". Good work, and many thanks...

Reverse Lineups

Postby dieselpride » Sat Sep 09, 2006 8:50 am

I'm new to the online game but the fact that you are trying to impliment the Reverse lineup is a great idea. I am a truck driver and only have 2 or 3 days a week I can set up my lineups, I can't wait until 5 minutes to 10 everynight to see if my opponent saw I had a ton of righties against his lefty so he can put his lefty who gets only righties out in, I can't watch that often. This will make the game much more enjoyable for those of us who have a little less time than everyone else. :D

Bernie,

Maybe you can work out some sort of injury reserve. Place a player on additional injury days so you can call up another one?
