Ideal players in PETCO

Ideal players in PETCO

Postby Roscodog » Sun Sep 03, 2006 10:58 am

I see that the IDEAL players in Minute Maid has sparked alot of discussion how about the ideal players in PETCO. Obviously things can change depending who's in your division but if you were concentrating simply on PETCO who would you choose. I have not yet run a 2006 Petco team but I have one ready and waiting. I know guys with natural homeruns are good to have, but who else? I'm thinking a guy like Ichiro might be a good fit?

It can be tough on any hitter. I currently have B Roberts, who is a Petco-type guy, hitting .220 just over 2/3 of the way thru a season and T Clark, who is one of the top Petco HR guys with his natural HR's, with 1 HR and way south of the Mendoza Line with over 100 AB's. I had Ortiz lead the league in HR's in Petco. I would try for a few Figgins, Duffy and Ichiro type guys to name some of the obvious selections. Maybe Winn, M Young and Crawford depending on the division and too add some extra vases. Helton could work, but not many like him overall. E Young and L Harris are some cheapo DH options.

It really depends, there are many many ways to make a Petco offense. Some people like the reverse methos, i.e. cheap pitching and a real strong offense, some load up on pitching with a cheapo offense, some go more balanced.

MM I really only see a change of about 5 mil from pitching to hitting, depending on what you get.

Petco could vary by over 20 mil.

Players who are W powered but have good BA/OBP are the way to go on the cheap. Look for doubles to bring people home instead of the HR. Redmond, Casey, Roberts, Kennedy, M Young, Figgins, F Sanchez, Crisp, Duffy, Ichiro all have done well for me.

Any player named Brady Clark makes an ideal DH for Petco. Will serve the purpose in both home and away games. Could very well be the best hitting value in the 06 set.

I've also liked Clark from day1 at DH batting leadoff, used him in Camden Yards with some nice results

I don't like Hocking at dh for Petco. Not enough hits, (singles and doubles).

I highly value single** or single (lf), considering that most lf have bad arms. For this reason, players like Duffy, Lofton, and cheapie Castillo (when used in platoon) attrack in my eyes more attention than Clark (although Clark is not a bad choice, but perhaps a bit overestimated given the fuzz he attracts).

I also appreciate what I call "producing doubles" (doubles that can make the runner on first score a run). A player like Randy Winn (relative few homeruns, producing rbis chances from 4-6 vs rhp and from 4-7(1-11) vs lhp) can make a very strong #3 or #4 for Petco. In a Petco team, I have Cabrera as #4 hitter. Perhaps not ideal given he has relatively high homerun power, but he does have producing doubles (4-6 vs lhp, 4-5,7 vs rhp) with relatively good single** (at least vs rhp), and so far (about 50 games played) he leads the league in rbis despite playing in Petco.

Crisp is fine as long as you relaize he's almost needs a platoon. I usually bat hime 5th/6th vs righties, 8th vs lefties

I have a Crisp/Kielty platoon on another team, thought it might work ok in PETCO as well.
